| Can I delete all downloads under Software Distribution?
In C:\WintNT\SoftwareDistribution\Download there are many folders with files that I would like to delete. Is there any reason to keep these? The files are named by long series of numbers and letters with no extension(s). Are these just taking up space or does Win2000 use them from time to time? jc |

I took a look at the two links in the link you refered to. As far as I can tell, they don't have anything to do with deleting the files I'm talking about (unless "reset update components" is the same as delete update components...it didn't seem to be). This link required about an hour of reading, typing, registry editing and still no mention of deleting. The other link is for XP computers. Way down almost at the end of a long page is a description for deletingthe windows update files for XP computers. But even if I follow this, I'm warned to delete only those older than 30 days. That means checking the dates for each file. I counted...I have 65 sub folders with 15-20 files inside each one. That means checking about 975+ individual files for dates! Are you sure there isn't an easier way to take care of this problem. jc "Dave Patrick" <DSPatrick@nospam.gmail.com> wrote in message news:up0OAWQVKHA.5584@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... > Did you try these? > http://groups.google.com/group/micro...l/msg/d52a5119 094078ee?hl=en&dmode=source > > > -- > > Regards, > > Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. > Microsoft Certified Professional > Microsoft MVP [Windows] > http://www.microsoft.com/protect > > > "jbclem" wrote: > > In C:\WintNT\SoftwareDistribution\Download there are many folders with > > files > > that I would like to delete. If the problem is disk space then I'd look at buying another (or larger) disk. Disk space is quite cheap these days. You might also ask about the consequences of deleting here. http://www.microsoft.com/communities...&lang=en&cr=US -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. I delete most of mine and I didn't notice any problems. One trick is if you don't know if it is ok to delete something, is just to rename the folder (or files). Then reboot. Is everything okay? Then make a copy of it before you delete it just in case for awhile. If the computer doesn't boot, you need a boot disc to rename the folder back again. Now everything should be fine once again. -- Bill Asus EEE PC 702G4 ~ 2GB RAM ~ 16GB-SDHC Xandros Linux (build 2007-10-19 13:03) |

As the drive (SSD) is soldered right on the motherboard. And I would have to replace the whole motherboard to upgrade the drive. Luckily this one here has a replaceable SSD card. -- Bill Asus EEE PC 702G4 ~ 2GB RAM ~ 16GB-SDHC Xandros Linux (build 2007-10-19 13:03) |
