Technical support until 2014 - Windows XP

Technical support until 2014 - Windows XP

There will be no further delay, apart from certain specific cases such as the UMPC market, warned Microsoft, which will decide on June 30 to market its Windows XP system. However, insofar as many companies have not started the process to its successor, Windows Vista, the leading global publishers took the decision to extend the period during which technical support and related corrections the security will be ensured. It should finally come to an end in April 2014, thirteen years after the launch of the system on the market.

An inevitable end of life? Consumers will need Windows XP after June 30 can still be obtained," explains in an open letter Bill Veghte, vice president of the Windows division at Microsoft. Starting from July, the new machines equipped with Windows Vista board will be essential, but it remains possible to obtain the Microsoft operating system until January 31, 2009 from authorized resellers. Companies will continue however to be able to take advantage of the "downgrade" to install Windows XP from a license Vista.

Finally, the rise of netbooks, UMPC and other PC "low cost" has led Microsoft to commit a breach of the rule it had set itself to ensure the spread of Windows Vista. The manufacturers concerned may indeed deliver their machines with Windows XP Home or Starter editions, until 2010.

The resources devoted to extended support of Windows XP as well as the monitoring of Windows Vista do not divert Microsoft's new goal, Windows 7, on which Bill Veghte said that the output is still expected "within three years after the general availability of Windows Vista, in January 2007. "

He is using this opportunity to reassure individuals and companies stung by compatibility problems encountered during the migration from XP to Vista: "you indicated that you did not want to meet with the next version of Windows the difficulties you have experience during the early days of Windows Vista. Accordingly, our approach with Windows 7 will rest on the same architecture as Vista kernel, so that your investments and those of our partners, made for Vista, continue to pay with 7 ".

Although Windows v7 is out and used on most of the system Microsoft shifting the end of the support period for the popular Windows XP Home from April 2009 to April 2014. The mainstream support which is the free technical support and related to the development of updates was going to end in 2009 but now the same is till 2014. This is an kind of a good news for the Windows XP users.
