The manufacturer AOC want to raise public interest for displays focusing on a USB 2.0 connection. A long-awaited technology, but that has not kept its promises in the past.

AOC will launch later this November a new screen that relies on its USB 2.0 connection for both its power, but also the data flow. The idea for the brand is to provide a mobile screen presented as an extension displayed for laptops plus size reduction, or simply used for work on two screens.

Under the reference of E1759FWU, it has 17-inch screen size, based on a TN panel with a display of 1600 x 900 pixels resolution. Taking advantage of the high speeds offered by USB 3.0 interface, the screen should display a response time of 10ms and a maximum brightness of 220 cd/m² in contrast to the average of 650:1.

Apart from its relatively good format definition, one immediately notices that the benefits shown are not doing a true competitor for fixed screens or even directly embedded in portable solutions.

The screen does not need to occupy a single USB 3.0 port to transfer images and draw the energy needed for its operation. Here, it is always the Dislplaylink technology work: installing a specific driver to allow the display to extend its station to other screens, and there is more to plug.

This monitor, which weighs only 1.28 kg, will be available from next month and costs £110.
