The music recognition application Shazam ha hit over 100 million users on smartphones and claims to weigh 7% of music downloads in the world.

Shazam is far from an application of early youth; it is even one of the oldest mobile app. It has been going on already for many years but is currently experiencing a strong increase in its number of users. With the basic principle of identifying the music captured through the microphone of the smartphone, Shazam claims over 100 million active mobile users per month.

This performance is the result of a 34% growth year by year. The individual compares the evolution of its user base results previously achieved by "elite service" consists of Facebook, Twitter or YouTube.

Moreover, the application would be responsible for more than 400,000 sales of digital tracks per day, or about 7% of music downloads in the world via links to various partners like iTunes, Google Play or Amazon.

Shazam

With competitors, the best known is probably Gracenote, Shazam received last year to invest up to $40 million from Carlos Slim, one of the largest fortunes in the world and shareholder of the South American operator America Movil.

If Shazam is now offering this self-promotion with large numbers, it is a priori to pave the way for an IPO. Before that, we should hear much about Shazam because of its partnership with Apple that materialized by integrating the service into Siri for iOS 8.
