Unreal Engine 4 will support Windows RT and Windows Phone

Last week, Epic Games communicated on porting the Unreal Engine 4, physical and graphics engine to GNU/Linux and SteamOS. Today it is the turn of Windows Phone and Windows RT.

The latest graphics engine of Epic Games, Unreal Engine 4 is a real monster. Demonstrations shown latter is often eyeful, and so it is with joy for Windows Phone users that it will soon be ported to Windows Phone and Windows RT.

So far, it is mainly Unity which is used in most games operating from a tablet or smartphone, primarily for reasons of convenience and flexibility. But as soon as the publishers want a heavier focus on display, it is to the Unreal Engine, now in its fourth version, that we must turn.

Able to offer visually very mature games without the need for cumbersome configuration, the engine of Epic Games aims particularly efficient in mobile solutions, but it is currently not available in the Windows Mobile world.

The most surprising announcement, however, the engine porting to Windows RT OS criticized for its lack of openness and limited capacity which was launched with the first generation of Surface tablet and is now embedded in some machines without the manufacturers that are pursuing partnerships in this area, due to lack of public interest.

Yet the Unreal Engine 4 will be well available on Windows Phone and Windows RT, it will probably have to wait long before seeing the first title based on the engine, as Epic Games has announced that the port was well planned without being as a priority, which is left to iOS and Android, the two most profitable platforms currently.
