Android overtakes Apple in tablet sales in 2013
The market for tablet computers will be further developed in the past year, posting sales record with a general decline in prices. And in this changing market, Apple and its iPad tablet loses the most.
Global sales of tablet PCs have thus increased by 68% between 2012 and 2013 to reach a record of 195.4 million units sold as indicated by Gartner.
And although Apple recorded an increase in sales in the fourth quarter, it appears that the manufacturer represents only 36% of the tablet market while still occupied 52.8% market share last year. The iPad is no longer the queen of tablets and gives way to its competitors operating under Android.
Because it is Android that benefits the general market growth, sales of tablets equipped with Google's OS have increased from 53,300,000 in 2012 to 120,900,000 in 2013, or 45.8% to 61.9% market share, Microsoft is positioning up to 2.1% of the market sector.
At the same time, Apple still remains the leading manufacturer of tablets having elapsed 70.4 million units in 2013 (61.4 million in 2012), far ahead of Samsung which has elapsed to 37.4 million of its tablets. In third place was Asus with 11.03 million tablets sold in 2013, followed by Amazon with 9.4 million and 6.52 million with Lenovo tablets.
The market tends to increasingly change at affordable products, with an average purchase price of between 150 and 200 euros, a segment that does not hold Apple and allows Chinese manufacturers and even Samsung scrounge market share.
