ioSafe NAS 1513+ Powered By Synology announced

ioSafe presented last week at the CES a new NAS storage server resistant to fire and flooding.

The ioSafe NAS 1513+ is a complete NAS 214 launched two years ago. Like its predecessor and as its reference suggests, it is based on the hardware and software components of Synology, one of the most reputed NAS market specialists.

The new model is more precisely a DS1513+ with a specific case, similar to a black box. Resistance at a temperature of 850? C for 30 minutes, it protects Fire (standard ASTM E119) and protects watertight floods to 3m depth for 3 days.

The idea is to be able to go off-site, via a public network and usually on a potentially vulnerable cloud, never having to expose sensitive data or for savings.

Anyway, it has an Intel Atom dual-core 2.13 GHz processor, 2 GB of RAM (expandable to 4), five Serial ATA 3.5-inch (expandable via a variant ioSafe expansion enclosure) and four Gigabit Ethernet ports. It has 350 MB/s read and 200MB/s write capability. Two eSATA ports, two USB 3.0 ports and four USB 2.0 ports complement the range. It rests on the famous firmware Disk Station Manager (DSM), currently in version 4.3, but version 5.0 to launch soon.

The ioSafe NAS 1513+ will be launched in the U.S. in March at a retail price of 1600 dollars, against 700 euros for Synology DS1513+ for which it is derived.
