Xbox LIVE game prices raised by Microsoft converting MSP to real money

According to initial observations of gamers and British media, the transition point between Microsoft and real money announced by the company in June may not benefit consumers.

During the announcement of the Xbox One, Microsoft took the opportunity to formalize the imminent disappearance of its virtual currency called Microsoft Points. And the company does not intend to wait for the arrival of its new console for that: it is already testing this new beta on the Xbox 360 dashboard.

Only the first returns from across the Channel are rather disturbing: in fact, Eurogamer noted that gamers who have access to the beta found a price increase for games and other DLCs available for purchase by Microsoft. "1200 MS Points converted into real money do not give enough money to buy a game that was worth 1200 MS points before" sums up the site. In sum, if the conversion of MSP is owned fair, prices were increased significantly.

Thus, games and other content were sold at 1600 MS Points, equivalent to 13.60 pounds before, are proposed to 14.99 pounds in real money. Games 1200 MSP (10.20 pounds) is now worth 11.99, those 800 MSP (6.80 pounds) is 8.99 and those 400 MSP (3.20 pounds) cost a 4.49 pounds.

On Reddit, gamers are annoyed by this increased rate, up to 33%. Note that the British are not the only ones to complain to higher prices, Indian user also found higher rates, noting for example that the themes which cost 240 MSP (about Rs. 160, Indian rupees) cost now Rs. 250.

It really is a bad advertisement from Microsoft that has not yet commented on the change in its pricing policy. Still, for now, these prices are limited to the beta of the new version of the dashboard of the Xbox 360, and may change with the arrival of the final update. Meanwhile, users of the beta version are penalized.

Re: Xbox LIVE game prices raised by Microsoft converting MSP to real money

Microsoft quickly realized the problem of this converting MS Points/GBP transactions and immediately corrected this. According to a spokesman of the giant, it will be the same for Europe and the euro accounts. It was said that they will reimburse the price for participants of the beta who were shocked by the difference between what was paid and what will be when they have corrected the prices. Beta programs are used to test, repair and fix problems like this.
