Digitimes site confirms that Acer and Asus will launch new chromebooks in the course of H2 at different levels.
Recently, we learned that HP and Lenovo were invited on the Chrome OS market by providing out of new machines alongside other hardware partners like Google, Acer and Samsung. Asus could also make an appearance.
Indeed the site Digitimes reports that the second half of this year will be notable for the launch of new Chromebooks. Over this period, Google also strengthens the marketing operations to further promote its operating system articulating the Chrome browser on a Linux kernel.
Acer have sold between 150,000 and 200,000 units of its C7 Chromebook between November and December falling to 20,000 in January. The Taiwanese manufacturer has ceased production and thus would expect to launch a new laptop with a 11.6-inch screen for primarily targeting students. According to an industry source, "Asustek, which had not initially intended to join the competition of Chromebooks also may come out in the second half of this year."
Without further specific information Digitimes also reports that Google is also working with the manufacturers on the production of Androidbooks that is to be more aggressive against Microsoft. More information could be shared in the Google I/O event that is to be held from 15 to 17 May.
