Sony Xperia phones compatible with Dualshock 3 controllers

An employee of Sony Mobile has released a YouTube video that explains some of the firm Xperia devices will soon be officially compatible with the DualShock 3 controller that comes with the Playstation 3.

Via video, Tom Randall, stationed at Sony Mobile, explains this feature, explaining that "Sony has created software for its Xperia smartphones, which allows you to connect a wireless DualShock 3 controller to play games." This feature should be integrated natively in future devices from Sony, starting with the Xperia SP, a mid-range smartphone announced last March.

If the possibility of using a DualShock controller on an Android device already exists, it requires, for the time, to be rooted: a manipulation that is not for everyone and probably Sony has put forward for its upcoming devices. "This will play hundreds of titles available and optimized on Google Play or SEN" said Tom Randall. However, it adds an important detail: "This is not an application. It is a software preinstalled on the Android overlay from Sony." In other words, if the company can consider adding it in the future based on some devices already available, it will likely wait to see an update for the Android to benefit.

Note that Sony Mobile has not officially confirmed this function, even if it is described by its employee in the video below.

Until now, the connection was possible but required to go through a third party application. With the new system, the pairing between the accessory and the mobile is starting with a USB cable, but once the setting is done, the connection switches to Bluetooth. It is then possible to use the Dualschock 3 to play PlayStation 1 titles that Sony offers on its PlayStation Mobile for Android and games compatible with a physical controller found on Google Play.

Re: Sony Xperia phones compatible with Dualshock 3 controllers

I wonder why Sony has not released a new joystick altogether for their xperia phones like Samsung did, by releasing its new joystick for mobile phone called Samsung GamePad for its galaxy series mobile phone. Actually, it is a good idea and people will be buying this product for ease of gaming, thus benefitting the manufacturer itself.
