Google adds CardDAV Sync for Gmail

Google has finally standardized sync between the address book by using the CardDAV protocol.

Syncing contacts from Address Book to Gmail can sometimes be a bit chaotic. To simplify it, Google announced that it implemented CardDAV protocol. Developed by the IETF, CardDAV itself is based on the WebDAV protocol to synchronize contact cards in vCard format.

Address Book for OSX, iOS, Evolution, ContactSync on Android are compatible with this protocol. To configure automatic synchronization, you should choose the google.com server then mention the abcd@gmail.com address and password. Theoretically, each of the changes made to a contact as well as the addition or deletion of one of them will be reflected.

CalDAV uses the full implementation of this protocol for Google Calendar. Note that Yahoo! Mail and Zimbra OwnCloud have already integrated with CardDAV. To configure the Gmail address book, find more information on this page.

Google's Gmail service already offers the possibility to take advantage of the IMAP inbox to see its messages directly on the server and synchronize the use of the box between its devices. Android synchronization is automatic when a Google account is configured, which is essential to download apps on Play Store, but there are other gateways that require an application to modify its settings.
