Google Play platform offers 675,000 applications and games to date and it has recorded 25 billion downloads since its launch.

Google Pay now boasts 25 billion downloads, according to the official blog of Android. Threshold Apple had managed to reach a little less than four years after the launch of its App Store. The figure was announced on 5 March 2012, at the eve of the official launch of Google Play merger with Android Market, Google eBookstore and Google Music. The market share of Android has risen sharply in recent months to reach 68% in the second quarter of 2012 according to IDC, against 17% for iOS. This partly explains the growth in sales on Google Play till the period.

To celebrate the announcement, Google will offer significant reductions during the next five days including games developed by Gameloft, Electronic Arts, Rovio, runtastic or Full Fat. They will be available for only 25 cents.

In June, the company reported that Google Play reached 20 billion downloads, with a rate of 1.5 billion downloads per month. According to the leader of Android, Andy Rubin, 1.3 million devices running the operating system from Google play are activated each month. In total, the company recorded 500 million activations and could reach one billion by the end of next year, according to iSuppli, Apple will reach a figure in 2015.
