Hp launches first version Open webOS beta
The HP team, developing the open source version of WebOS continues to closely follow its roadmap and announces the publication of its first beta.
It was in August 2011 that the HP company decided to discontinue marketing of WebOS to its device. After having sold its smartphones and tablets, the company has considered several strategies for its mobile operating system and finally, rather than market licenses, the group decided to publish it as open source under the name Open WebOS.
In January, the development team has released a roadmap that has been strictly followed in recent months. Open WebOS version 1.0 should normally be published this month.
This weekend, a first beta was made available for download. It consists of 54 components previously published in the open source category and forming a total of 450,000 lines of code. The team says that the project has an Apache 2.0 license. Two versions are available: desktop and OpenEmbedded, respective developers offering help can develop directly from a PC to Ubuntu and bring the system to new devices with ARM emulator.
It still remains whether this work will convince manufacturers or operators. Currently they are struggling to sell Windows Phone and making margins on Android devices and iOS.

Re: Hp launches first version Open webOS beta
So after compiling the environment, the operating system will display a window that will emulate a full tablet or smartphone on Open WebOS. Thus, it will be possible to check the battery status in the status bar, lock screen, or launching applications such as account manager, calculator or the e-mail client.
