Opera extends its default search agreement with Google

Norwegian Opera Software renews its contract with its rival Google. The search engine will continue to be well integrated into the browser, including for mobile version.

Opera Desktop, Opera Mobile and Opera Mini will continue to integrate the Google search engine at least until August 2014. Both editors come to renew an agreement originally signed in November 2009 allowing users to take many advantage of Opera's default Google services, including its search engine.

The Oslo-based company also reported its results for the second quarter ended on June 30. Opera says that its revenue is up 32% compared to the second quarter of 2011 and now stands at $52.1 million. A good figure mainly due to the increase of the division of "mobile consumers".

The latter is in fact an increase of 168% and Opera would like to welcome the launch of Opera Mini 7 available since last June on the BlackBerry platform, as well as those based on S60 Java platform. By cons, this segment still represents only a meager portion of the profit since Opera generates only $3.4 million.

Finally, the second point of satisfaction proves to be the division responsible for the browser to landlines which grew 22% and represents a turnover of $15.7 million.

In the future, Opera remains positive and expects to benefit from the growth sectors of browsers and mobile advertising. The stated objective of the group is to build its base of 200 million users on mobile browser version and monetize these assets "via applications, advertising and online search." It also intends to strengthen its presence in certain markets like Russia for example.

Re: Opera extends its default search agreement with Google

For Yahoo, this step means a setback, so far it was the search of the Internet group in the default browser. The company is in the market for desktop applications but is already struggling with declining acceptance and renewed efforts in the mobile sector to take root, such as using Yahoo Go! Mobile 2.0 long ago.
