HP launches WebOS "Community Edition"
As expected, via its blog dedicated to developers, HP announced the publication of new components for its WebOS system.
In March, Sam Greenblatt, CTO of HP WebOS, announced that some components of 3.0.5 version of the operating system (available on the touchpad) would be distributed as open source. Called "Community Edition", this project aims to provide more flexibility to current users of the tablet. The source code WebOS Community Edition is now available for download. It specifically targets the touchpad while Open WebOS 1.0, scheduled for September, aims to bring WebOS on any tablet.
"With the availability of WebOS Community Edition, you can now learn how the Touchpad tablet works, modify it to suit your taste and apply your knowledge later to Open WebOS 1.0", the team said. Developers can now, for example, change the behavior of the application manager presented in the form of cards, the notification system or the universal search engine. One could also imagine more interactions with the Touch to Share feature, integration of new community networks in the Address Book or the ability to embed new sharing options for multimedia applications.
