Call of Duty: Black Ops II Details and Comparison with its First Part

Till now we have seen Call of Duty games dwelling into past and rotating their stories around real historical events like World War I and World War II. Many Call of Duty games also featured the rivalry between historical enemies like America, Russia, Germany, Vietnam and so on. Also the Modern Warfare series which had covered the present times had certain parts set in the old times. But this is the first time that developers of Call of Duty series will set the game in the future period. Blazing with robotic figures and drones, the war will now be set in the future era. Till now Call of Duty developers would be creating stories that would relate to some historical events or start from some of them. But now for the first time, with Call of Duty Black Ops II, developers will create story and environment that will create situation and conditions that might create wars in future. Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 will feature events that might take place in year 2025 with all the high tech gadgets and weapons along with automated machines and equipments.

This game too will have its connection with past events, but not during the events of cold war or too old events. The main gameplay of Black Ops 2 will take place in the year 2025 while the story of the war in year 2025 will have its connection with events of 1980s. Yes, the game will feature Alex Mason again. The last we saw of Alex Mason was in Call of Duty Black Ops where he was helping Viktor Reznov to find the chemical bomb being armed by German and Russian terrorists. Treyarch has confirmed that Black Ops 2 will have direct connection with Black Ops as they have Alex Mason in it. This time in Call of Duty: Black Ops II, you will be handling the gun and seeing from the view of David Mason. Yes, you have rightly guessed, he will be shown as son of Alex Mason.

In the recently released trailer of call of Duty: Black Ops II we can see Frank Woods lecturing the soldiers and fighters who can lay their lives and sacrifice themselves for sake of country. He is heard telling that people like them martyrs and brave soldiers will be necessary no matter how many powerful machines are designed to protect the civilization. Even with the most advanced and powerful machine on our side, the defenses won’t be complete without having some real brave men. He also says that, it will only take enemies to gain controls of these powerful machines who are defending to turn them against the people whom they are meant to protect. During his whole lecture you are able to see the in-game shots of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. These shots include unmanned drones flying around in the sky, cities being bombed and big robot like machines firing bullets. Also the trailer shows what the story will be about. The trailer itself gives a fair idea that there is an ongoing cold war or political war between U.S.A. and China over some rare resources that are necessary for operation of advanced high tech machinery of the future. This trailer also reveals that some man by name Raul Menendez will infiltrate the United States' automated defense network to create the war between U.S.A. and China to increase the existing tension between them. This will lead to a full fledge war where the events of the game will take part. There is also a scene where you can see fight with people running using horses in deserts of Mexico. This means that origin of the events in 2025 will be tracked in 1980s.

Regarding the gameplay and the structure of the game style, Treyarch, developers of previous Black Ops, Modern Warfare series have said that they will bring a change in that part. Many people who played Modern Warfare 3 were disappointed as it was just another shooting arcade game like in old days. Remember the old game by name Virtua Cop where the movements were automatic and all we had to do was to shoot the enemies. Actually Modern Warfare 3 too was of same kind. Except there were many guns to choose from and there was freedom of deciding where to move and where to stop. All one needed to do in Modern Warfare 3 was to shoot the enemies in linear level till they stopped spawning. There were no alternative routes, neither alternative method to finish any level. All the player had to do was read the mission, se the direction in which the objective marker was present and just go make way by shooting the enemies. Also the majority of the fights took place in urban area, so there were no open areas and one had to follow a fixed direction. This made the gameplay stale and almost unplayable for the second time.

Since Black Ops had one of the best stories that any game ever had and its ending was appreciated the most, it now becomes duty of the developers to not disappoint the Black Ops fan. To do this, they have promised a more outstanding story and events in the game. They have also said that the explosions will be bigger than the previous game and more fights will be made available. Treyarch has said that Black Ops II will feature Strike Force missions. These missions will have an open world type of game play and player will be able to roam in any part of the designed environment. One can also decide the way and the sequence in which he/she wants to complete the missions. There is also possibility of having troops under our command and one can also control vehicles in Black Ops II. Like the previous games, where we had branching storylines, this games too will have the same structure. It is confirmed that David Mason as well as Alex Mason will not be part of Strike Force. This is not just where the game style will change; developers will also provide option to players regarding their combat styles. Whether they want to provide support or jump directly into action. There will many decision making parts which will change the story and events in Black Ops II. The trailer itself features the highways, docks and bird’s eye view of Los Angeles. This shows that many of the events will take place in Los Angeles and its urban areas.
    Controllable Planes

The trailer also features vehicles, that is, many scenes show trains and fights on the rails. Cars being driven around the war zone, horse chases from Central America and drones flying in the air. This shows that there will be option to drive vehicles in single player campaign. No confirmation about vehicular activities in multiplayer mode is yet announced. The scene which shows controlled drones hints to that there will also be air fights and the airspace too will be open like the grounds. Open grounds means more characters and more vehicles. More area also guarantees more fight and that too of high intensity. Nothing has been yet declared about the multiplayer mode of Call of Duty: Black Ops II other than its presence.
One of the most anticipated Horse chase

The best part is that in end of Call of Duty: Black Ops we saw presence of zombies. Treyarch have confirmed that zombies will be brought back in Call of Duty: Black Ops 2. No idea if they will be featured in Single player campaign or multiplayer mode, but yes, they will be present. Being a hardcore fan of Call of Duty games, I am expecting a great game from Treyarch’s side. I hope that Call of Duty: Black Ops II will bring a new evolution in terms of gameplay and first person shooters. It seems that Treyarch has taken up the challenge to provide best gameplay possible to its fans and gamers. With this hope let’s wait till November 13, 2012 when Call of Duty: Black Ops II will hit the market.

This is really nice to found that the developers are going to provide some more innovation solution on such games. It is always better to have something when you are on a single type of gameplay. I had found that many game developers are providing dlc with entirely different gameplay making the game more interesting to play.
