New Samsung Chromebook and Chromebox Launched

With the addition of the Galaxy S III, Samsung's new high-end Android smartphone, the Korean manufacturer has now approached Google by announcing the release of new Chromebooks and a Chromebox.

Google, on its official blog, announces new features of its Chrome OS system, articulating the chrome browser with a Linux kernel. Chrome OS has a new interface with a desktop, a window manager and a task bar. This would ensure support for disconnected mode and propose a new media player and a new photo editor.

The Samsung Chromebook Series 5 550 is available in two versions; WiFi or 3G + WiFi. It features a 12.1-inch screen (for a definition of 1280 x 800) topped with a webcam of 1MP. The machine runs on an Intel Celeron 867 Dual Core 1.3 GHz and lined with 4 GB of RAM and an Intel HD Graphics 3000. The storage capacity (16GB SSD) can be expanded via a SD card reader. In addition to two USB ports we find a DisplayPort. The WiFi version is announced at 449.99 dollars against 549.99 dollars for the WiFi + 3G model.

Samsung has also unveiled the first Chromebox, a box type that can be connected to two 30-inch displays. The computer hosts a Intel Celeron B840 dual-core clocked at 1.9 GHz with 4 GB of RAM and an Intel HD Graphics 3000. This machine has 6 USB ports, two DisplayPort and has a capacity of 16 GB SSD. The Chromebox is announced at $329.99. These machines are at present available in the UK and the USA and will be marketed in other countries thereafter.
