Sonos announced yesterday the launch of an accessory for its line of wireless speakers, the "Sonos Sub", a subwoofer for high-end and complete one of its facilities.
The new "Sonos Sub" is the first speaker of the manufacturer that is not to be autonomous, to depend on another, although it also communicates wirelessly and does not require a power cord. We find the pairing procedure oversimplified, a push of a button.
It is therefore intended to enhance bass if compared with other Sonos components, as they provide their own amplification, for reasons of timing. The SUBWOOFER works with all Sonos amplified components: CONNECT:AMP/ZonePlayer 120/ZonePlayer 100; PLAY:5; PLAY:3. However, it wont work with the non-amplified Sonos CONNECT/ZP90/ZP80.
As always, the luxury brands prefer nice turns of phrase with the technical specifications, and promises "100% digital sound, clear and deep, based on two speakers face to face, which would cancel the vibrations, and as many Class D amplifiers. The frequency response is unfortunately not communicated, and no setting seems possible.
The "Sonos Sub", which measures 402 x 380 x 158 mm still 16 kg, can be positioned vertically or horizontally, which allows to hide. It will be launched in mid-June in a black matte finish for the tidy sum of $599 USD ($649 CAD, euro 599 EU, and 499 pounds UK).
