Indian Government’s low cost tablet gave a people hit and a miss when it was launched last year. Not many of them were happy with the performance of the Aakash tablet leading to the government delaying the plans of launching Aakash 2. Aakash 2 tablet which is expected to be launched by the may month will be updated with the Android 4.0 operating system and a dual core Cortex A9 processor. However the initial shipments that you will be receiving of Aakash Tablet 2 will feature Android v2.3 Gingerbread OS and single-core 800MHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor only. DataWind CEO Mr. Suneet Singh Tuli have confirmed that they will update the tablet to Android 4.0 within 3 to 6 weeks of shipment of devices and the devices will be getting a dual core Cortex A9 processor by the end of this year.
After the recent launch of Micromax Funbook which also is a ICS tablet, tablet competition in the Indian market has definitely spiced up. With low priced ICS tablets already being available, that was the main reason why Aakash 2 would also be upgraded to android 4.0. Aakash 2 is a major upgrade to the earlier Aakash which was released last year with 7-inch resistive touch, Android 2.2 Froyo OS, and a slower 366MHz ARM processor. Aakash 2 will be having a dual core Cortex A9 processor which has 1.25 times more DMIPS/MHz at peak than Cortex A8 processor , these dual core processors can be normally seen in the high priced tablets like Samsung galaxy tab and Sony playbook. So if you want to get a Aakash 2 tablet with dual core processor you will have to further wait till the end of this year when the advanced and updated version of Aakash 2 comes up. So people will definitely look up for Aakash 2 considering that it is a Android 4.0 tablet and has a dual core processor.
