AMD announces 3D Fusion Media Explorer

AMD today released a beta version of its Fusion Media Explorer (FME) a highly attractive 3D media browser complete with social media integration.

The INQ actually got a sneak peak of the FME last month in Austin, but was told finishing touches were still being added before it was ready to step out as the firm's spring debutante. Now, however, all touched up, it looks like FME is ready for the spotlight.

On his blog, AMD's Director of Product Marketing, Casey Gotcher, says the software "does a great job of showcasing the power of our CPUs and GPUs and what our platforms are actually capable of when the software is designed to take full advantage of them".

Actually, in our INQpinion, FME isn't particularly innovative, but it sure is exceptionally good looking and user friendly!

Operating Systems Supported:

The following Operating Systems have been tested to work with AMD Fusion Media Explorer:

• Windows Vista Home Premium (32-bit and 64-bit editions)
• Windows Vista Ultimate (32-bit and 64-bit editions)

The following Operating Systems have not been tested but are believed to work with AMD Fusion Media Explorer:

• Windows Vista Home Basic
• Windows Vista Business
• Windows Vista Enterprise

The following Operating Systems are not supported with AMD Fusion Media Explorer:

• Microsoft Windows XP (any version)
• Microsoft Windows Home Server
• Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (any version)
• Microsoft Windows 7 Beta
• Linux

Application:

• To view live TV with a TV tuner, you will need to turn off Windows Vista User Account Control (UAC) and reboot your machine
  
• Only analog cable (NTSC) is supported
  
• Occasionally the Beta version of AMD Fusion Media Explorer will crash
  
• Any web forms that are partially filled out will lose their data if the application crashes
  
• Any uploads that are in progress will abort if a crash occurs
  
• There are many UI glitches in the installer and the application, and we are working to clear these up as quickly as possible
  
• You need the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player for related online media and other software features
  
• Microsoft .NET Framework Version 3.5 Service Pack 1 is required to run AMD Fusion Media Explorer
  
• It is recommended to apply all Microsoft Windows updates, including optional driver updates
