Kevin Rose's Apple crystal ball has been wrong more often than not (he was sorta right about $199 iPhone), but this time he's seen pictures people! ("It looks pretty cool.") He says that not only will the new iPod nano be tall and skinny and giant-screened like we've heard, he says it'll be rounded (like iPhone 3G's ass-side, but all the way around), and even provides this handy rendering.Kev also claims that the iPod lineup will undergo price cuts to avoid the market cannibalization assumed by the lower $199 iPhone 3G purchase price. The iPod touch, which currently starts at $299 for 8GB, will see some slight cosmetic changes as well as a new 2.1 firmware update (which will obviously make its way to the iPhone). Tagging along with the iPod refresh is a new iTunes 8.0 which, according to Rose's sources, deserves the full point upgrade based on all the new features and functionality it brings. All this, "in the next 2-3 weeks."

He then adds that OS X 10.5.6 is rumored to include Blu-ray support which could point to future Blu-ray options in Apple's lineup of Macs -- oh, and ponies, lots of ponies. Listen to the man say it in his own words in the video after the break.

- Revamp of entire iPod line.
- Small cosmetic changes to Touch, Nano to see significant redesign (see pic below).
- iPods to see fairly large price drops to distance itself from the $199 iPhone.
- iPod touch 2.1 software, iPhone to get update very soon after.
- iTunes 8.0 ("it's a big update w/new features").
- All of this coming in the next 2-3 weeks.

As rumors continue to build of upcoming Apple product updates, more hints are starting to suggest that Apple will be holding a special event in September to launch these new products.

A rumor over the weekend originating from Kevin Rose claimed that we could see iPod Nano and iPod Touch updates in the next few weeks. A subsequent report from Rose indicated that September 9th could be the date for the launch.

After a little goading, Rose first said the rumor of subscription music coming to iTunes was false, then offered up a new piece of information about what will be in version 8.

The one thing I hear about iTunes 8 is that it's going to do something along the lines of looking at your music... and kind of recommendations based upon certain things.

That's a nice feature, if it's there, but then sources that talk to Ars indicated that they have yet to hear about iTunes 8 being at the event. Ars can wink and nod about the general date. The only question that now remains is whether it will be an Apple Super Event that introduces new Macs.

Mark September 9 on your calendars, boys and girls - word on the street has it that Apple will be introducing product updates on that date, with the rumored iPod nano 4G being revealed on that day as well. Other gadget blogs have also picked up on this piece of news, so would it be a case where repeating a date will eventually make the whole thing turn out to be true? One can only wish, but I would like to see a different form factor for the iPod nano 4G though.
