| HOW to Stop STartup Programs that do not show in the "startup" folder or have options in the programs to not start at windows startup
Hi, I have programs that i installed that do not have options in the program inself to stop it starting when windows starts, and do not appear in start/all programs/startup. Is there an equivalent to tweak XP that works without problems that anyone can recommend? Or what other way is there to stop these programs starting at startup ?? Thanks very much |

If they are uncheck them. |

The program should be located in the system configuration utility called msconfig. Click The Start button and then, in the search box, type 'msconfig' (without the quotes). When the UAC box appears press OK to continue. msconfig should now appear at the top of the search list. Highlight it and press Enter. When msconfig opens, Click the startup tab and look down the list for the program. Once you have found it remove the check mark from the box on the left of the programs entry and then Click OK. When you next restart msconfig will throw up a 'message' box telling you that you have started your PC in troubleshooting mode. In this box, bottom left, I think, you will see a box with a tick in. Remove this tick to prevent this message appearing every time you boot your PC. You should now find that the program you were having problems with doesn't start each time you boot your PC. -- -- John Barnett MVP Associate Expert Windows Desktop Experience Web: http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org Web: http://vistasupport.mvps.org The information in this mail/post is supplied "as is". In addition to "msconfig" Vista includes Windows Defender which includes "Software Explorer" , it provides better identification of programs and options. It might be me, but you appear to be missing the point. The questioner is asking why do those programs that DON'T show up in Startup are starting, and how can they be stopped, and why are they not showing up. Valid points. Why doesn't Startup show every program that is starting at boot? This has to be an inadequacy within the OS. The questioner does not need to be pointed to msconfig, as he/she already knows how to view what is and is not starting up at boot - obvious from the question. The question is: how can the questioner discover what IS starting up - but does not appear in Startup, AND how can he/she stop those undisplayed startups from starting. It's very simple to me. Why are you asking daft questions? Read the question as is, and don't read what you think is said. Anyone from now on mentioning msconfig must be shot at dawn. Or maybe 2 in the afternoon from the point of the shooter. I have to get out of bed at dawn for a moron? No, I sleep for a bit longer, I think. You get up. |
