WAIK error 0x800F0823 during cataloging WIM image

Hi,

I am getting error 0x800F0823 when using Windows System Image Manager. This
happens when the .WIM is being cataloged. At first it gave an error about the
WIMGAPI.DLL which could not be found. When I copied this file to the System32
folder this error comes up:

Re: WAIK error 0x800F0823 during cataloging WIM image

I'm getting this as well and frankly it totally hacks me off.
Documentation lists everything as being as simple as creating the
catalog only to find out that a bizarre and so far totally obscure
error message gets through out.

I have located documentation regarding Updating the Service Stack.
Sounds good where / how. It lists Vista SP1 as being the update. I
am loading the install.wim file straight from our Volume licenses
provided Windows Vista Business with SP1.

here are the links i've been able to locate:

http://technet2.microsoft.com/Window...f44751033.mspx
http://technet2.microsoft.com/window....mspx?mfr=true
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=938371
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=937287

Not sure if this will help anyone or not but any help or solutions
anyone has would be appreciated.

Re: WAIK error 0x800F0823 during cataloging WIM image

Hello,
Are you using the updated Windows AIK?
You may get this error message if the Windows AIK is from Vista RTM and you
are using an SP1 image to capture
Thanks,

Any luck with cataloging WIM Image??

Hi, Thanks for posting this info. I checked it out. But haven't been able to resolve this yet. I assume I have the lates AIK as I just downloaded it from Microsoft today !! It isn't clear on how to do this "servicing" as I already have Vista Business with SP1 on it.
Did you manage to get it resolved? Any tips appreciated.
Cheers.

Finally Solved

I searched online and didn't find this solution directly, so I'm glad to be able to post what fixed it for me.

Background:

1) I already had the latest version of WAIK installed, the version that is supposedly compatible with Server 2008 imaging and Vista SP1. I still ran into this problem regardless.

2) The problem I experienced, to be clear, is windows system image manager (WSIM), a component of WAIK, not being able to find wimgapi.dll when attempting to add a Windows image. The image in my case was server 2008 x86 and x64.

Using hints from other post that I've read via google, I see that this dll is installed all over the WAIK installation. There are 3 versions under c:\program files\WAIK\tools. x86, x64, & ia64. I took the x86 version of the dll, which is 321KB, and copied it to the directory containing the WSIM executable. I close WSIM and opened it again, tried the windows image again, and WAH LAH!!!

the solution

hi all,

you simply must install the last WAIK v.1.1 for SP1 of VISTA :

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008

and you will see the version 6.0.6001.1800 in Help/About instead the 6.0.6000.16386

Rds,

Emmanuel

That wasn't the case for me. As I mentioned:
