    Explorer won't start after login

After when I login then the Windows Explorer will not start and then it will show me Documents folder instead. I have to press ctrl+alt+del and then run the task manager and then click on "New task" and then run explorer.exe all the time and the Windows Explorer will work fine again. But I dont want to do this manually all the time when I start up my Windows Vista computer which is a clean install. Thanks for any help.

I think that the likely issue would be a damaged or altered registry entry. So you can click on Start and then type regedit in the Search bar and press enter to open registry editor. After that expland this registry entry - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon and click on it and then search for the shell string in the right pane. Now you need to double click on it and then replace the contents with only "explorer.exe". After that click Ok and then close the registry editor and restart the pc and see if it works.

    Hello to everyone,
I wanted to let you know that I am also facing same kind of issues on my Windows Vista machine but when I go in the Regedit then I am not able to see the Winlogon which is under the CurrentVersion folder? Can anyone please help me out? Thanks.

You can try to repair the operating system and how to restore the operating system configuration to an earlier point in time in Windows Vista. Using the System Restore tool may not necessarily help you determine the issue. The System Restore tool uses restore points to return system files and settings to an earlier point in time. You can use it to restore the operating system to a point in time in which you did not experience the issue. More information over here - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936212
