| Vista x64 Memory / Bootup / CRCDisk.sys Issue
Hey guys, I dont know which of the folliwing the problem is. I am running Vista 64Bit OS with Corsair memory at 4GB - all works well. But regardless of the memory, when I install an additional two modules to upgrade the computer to 8GB - Vista goes into the gut wrenching boot up reboot loop. When I go into safe mode, the last driver Vista attempts to load is the crcdisk.sys. But as I have read in the forums, this is the last driver loaded so it does not neccesarily mean that this driver is the problem. I have also installed the MS patch KB929777. To no avail. Please help. I would like to run Vista with 8GB. Not Vista with 4GB or XP with 8GB. Please advise. -f |

| Re: Vista x64 Memory / Bootup / CRCDisk.sys Issue
Have you tested the memory with Memtest? This would help narrow it down. I'm assuming you have all your memory modules full. My understanding is that this puts a strain on other parts of your system and could require some tweaking to get that to work. But before you head down that road, you need to test the memory and see if the problem is with the memory itself.... -- John To reply direct, remove the REMOVEME in the signature. John, so let me say this: - I've tried replacing the Motherboard (same model) - I am using my 3rd set of memory (all the same symptoms - with the exception of when I learned of the MS patch). All the memory works well if I swap out modules. It only fails when Vista tries to boot up 8GB. The motherboard itself posts up correctly using all 8GB. I can probably run XP on it or any other OS by the looks of it. The problem seems to be when Vista loads. 3rd set of memory. 3rd time around tho, I got a direct recommendation from Corsair on what to use (just in case). PS - I've already been on the phone with Corsair support and we've adjusted all the settings we could possibly adjust. Any other suggestions? Thanks tho, -f "John Lechmanik" <j_lechmanik@REMOVEMEyahoo.com> wrote in message news:%23stqNuAeIHA.4312@TK2MSFTNGP03.phx.gbl... > Have you tested the memory with Memtest? Was having similar issue. Called MS Tech Support. There is a known issue with Vista 64 and Memory. No matter how much RAM you install the OS only use 3 GB. When you have 4 GB of Memory installed, if you look at the OS configuration it is only using 3 GB. The Memory channel must be in correct configuration. Many people are successfully running 64-bit Vista with 8GB (and more), and using all of it. You are undoubtedly thinking of 32-bit Vista (or any 32-bit Windows), but even there what you say is not accurate. All 32-bit versions of Windows (not just XP) have a 4GB address space. That's the theoretical upper limit beyond which you can not go. But you can't use the entire 4GB of address space. Even though you have a 4GB address space, you can only use *around* 3.1GB of RAM. That's because some of that space is used by hardware and not available to the operating system and applications. The amount you can use varies, depending on what hardware you have installed, but is usually *around* 3.1GB. Note that the hardware is using the address *space*, not the actual RAM itself. The rest of the RAM goes unused because there is no address space to map it too. -- Ken Blake - Microsoft MVP Windows: Desktop Experience Please reply to the newsgroup > When you have 4 GB of Memory installed, if you look at the OS > configuration it is only using 3 GB. > > The Memory channel must be in correct configuration. > > Bryan > > > "Frank Castle" <frank@punisher.com> wrote in message > news:O1EpklAeIHA.5900@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... >> Hey guys, I dont know which of the folliwing the problem is. Guys, if you notice in my post - I am running it fine in 4GB. I have installed the MS patch to address the aforementioned memory issue. My issue is upgrading to 8GB. Any further thoughts? Frank, I have an idea. Personally, I'm running my system with 8GB without any problems; even installation was done with that amount of memory. Don’t get jealous I have problem with my RAID matrix, but errors looks pretty much the same (last thing loaded CRCDISK.SYS). If possible, try to reinstall jour system with full 8GB (if not going on make it 2GB) but minimize all other hardware such as all add-in cards, except for video card, unplug all unnecessary equipment, and in BIOS turn off unused ports and controllers (IDE if you using SATA, Fire-wire, Serial, Parallel, whatever not used). Check your MB manufacturer website for the latest BIOS version too. Hope it will work. |

I have a Intel 975XBX2 with 4 Gb of Ram (4x1 Kingston). I replaced my modules from 1Gb to 2Gb each to obtain 8Gb. My machine was both x32 and x64 versions of Vista installed in dual boot. 32 Bit works fine I have all the updates and last drivers of all my accesories but I have the same issue as you. 64 Bits stops in crcdisk.sys file in safe mode. I have Bios version 2813. I´m going to upgrade to 2831 to see what´s happens. Inclusive I have Sp1 of vista in both versions. -- Reynaldo Ruiz (ReySys) Spectral Byte "Frank Castle" wrote: > Hey guys, I dont know which of the folliwing the problem is. I already update to version 2831 of my BIOS does not work. I reset the bios to factory default but does not work. Still frezzes in crcdisk.sys. I dont known if is a Intel or Microsoft issue with x64 of Vista. Is a driver issue. I remove to of the 4 x 2Gb modules get back to 4gb. Instead of the initial 4 x 1Gb modules. Vista x64 worked and I upgraded all my drivers Ati 2900, Marvell, Intel Matrix not necesary, Creative X-fi Platinium, etc. All updates after sp1 and it works now with 4 x 2Gb = 8Gb of Ram. VERY IMPORTANT THE LATEST DRIVERS. -- Reynaldo Ruiz (ReySys) Spectral Byte "ReySys" wrote: > I already update to version 2831 of my BIOS does not work.
