| installing home premium 64bit w/ 4g RAM I keep reading about folks who needed to remove some sticks of ram before installing vista 64-bit. Is this mandatory? I have 4 gig of Ram and I really don't want to open up my box and remove 2 gigs, as my computer is large and I'd have to remove memory cooling, etc. (I know, lazy) Do some people with 4 gigs ram succeed in installing vista without removing memory? -- phats_O CPU Type QuadCore Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800, 3466 MHz (12 x 289) Motherboard Name Dell XPS 720 Motherboard Chipset nVIDIA nForce 680i SLI Corsair Dominator Memory 4*1G (DDR2-800 DDR2)o/c 1066 Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (768 MB) Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (768 MB) 3D Accelerator nVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX Monitor Dell 1905FP (Digital) [19" LCD] Audio Adapter Creative CA20K1 X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity Audio Processor Power supply 1kW |

I didn't have any issues installing Vista using 4 GB of RAM. Depending on the motherboard and other hardware, sometimes it does need to be done, though. I just personally haven't had to yet. I guess your best bet would be to just go for it. -- Dustin Harper dharper@vistarip.com http://www.VistaRIP.com | Vista Resource & Information Page "phats_O" <phats_O.351dk0@no-mx.forums.net> wrote in message news:phats_O.351dk0@no-mx.forums.net... > > I keep reading about folks who needed to remove some sticks of ram > before installing vista 64-bit. YMMV. There is one thing I'd do, though, if I were you, before attempting the install. Get rid of the overclocking. Get your OS installed and working reliably, *then* do the overclocking. I've had personal experience where an OS installation failed on overclocked hardware, then went fine with the BIOS set to defaults. Many others have reported similar experiences. |

| Re: installing home premium 64bit w/ 4g RAM Ok, thanks. I'll try the install with all my ram first and keep my fingers crossed. I agree about the overclocking, I have actually set everything back, my signature just doesn't reflect it. -- phats_O CPU Type QuadCore Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800, 3466 MHz (12 x 289) Motherboard Name Dell XPS 720 Motherboard Chipset nVIDIA nForce 680i SLI Corsair Dominator Memory 4*1G (DDR2-800 DDR2)o/c 1066 Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (768 MB) Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (768 MB) 3D Accelerator nVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX Monitor Dell 1905FP (Digital) [19" LCD] Audio Adapter Creative CA20K1 X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity Audio Processor Power supply 1kW |

| Re: installing home premium 64bit w/ 4g RAM For the record, I got the bsod, removed the 2 gigs memory, then everything went fine. It was worth a try. -- phats_O CPU Type QuadCore Intel Core 2 Extreme QX6800, 3466 MHz (12 x 289) Motherboard Name Dell XPS 720 Motherboard Chipset nVIDIA nForce 680i SLI Corsair Dominator Memory 4*1G (DDR2-800 DDR2)o/c 1066 Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (768 MB) Video Adapter NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX (768 MB) 3D Accelerator nVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTX Monitor Dell 1905FP (Digital) [19" LCD] Audio Adapter Creative CA20K1 X-Fi Xtreme Fidelity Audio Processor Power supply 1kW |
