Transferring files from Slave XP hard drive to new Vista Hard drive - primary

My XP desktop died two days ago but fortunately my Hard Drive is safe. Hence I bought a new desktop with Windows Vista. Now when am connecting my XP HDD to vista am not able to copy anything from there to Vista Hard drive. Yes, I changed all permission stuffs but still the same problem.

Any idea what is going wrong? Please help, I have very important files saved on the old drive. Thank you.

Just changing the permission is not enough in such cases, you also need to take ownership of those files as well. And while doing the same make sure to apply the settings for all sub folders as well.

Just try it out again with taking ownership and see if you still get the problem.
