vista won't install or boot with more then 3gb ram

Why won't vista install or boot with more then 3gb ram?

my brother in law has 4 gb ram. It starts with a G I think. Intel E6600 dual
core. asus p5n32-sli-e motherboard.

vista home premium. also another person posted the same hardware cept didn't
say what board he has. he had ultimate vista. same problem.

when installing vista it won't get past the scrolling bar from the boot dvd.
it bsod. both people get same error. the ram is good too. you boot from dvd.
then it starts to show you the scrolling bAR WHILE IT TRIES TO LOAD the boot
dvd. it bsod everytime with all 4gb in the pc. take out one stick of ram for
4gb it works fine. put in stick of ram to make it 4gb after it is installed
and it won't boot up at all. take ram out for 3gb only and it works fine.
all ram is 100% good.

Re: vista won't install or boot with more then 3gb ram

I'm guessing you meant P5N32-E SLI. There have been several recent BIOS
updates for that board. One at least is related to memory.

http://support.asus.com/download/dow...Language=en-us

Confirm that is indeed the right board before flashing the BIOS there are
several different models of P5N32 boards.

You don't mention what video card(s) you're using. There are many problems
with two SLI cards and more than 2GB of RAM. Some motherboards don't support
this properly. There are also driver problems with this configuration.

Lastly what is the exact error message with parameters on the BSOD? Are you
installing the 32 bit or 64 bit versions of Vista?

You could also tell him to take out enough sticks to get to where
Vista loads, then put the sticks back in upon a successful load. This
is a known work around for some installations.

p5n32-e sli yes.
installed the newest 1002 bios, no help.
no idea on the error message. it is the same on someone elses set up too
that posted over at some web site.
vista home premium. it does not even get to what version. the first thing
you do is hit enter to boot from the disc and then it shows the scrolling
bar for windows dvd and then won't go anymore giving the bsod. but the bsod
isn't on the screen where you can see it. you see it like pop up then go
away to a totally black screen.

vista boot dvd memory test freezes all the time too. 9%-15% each time. ram
is good tho. 99.9% sure it is fine ram.

not using sli.

Look, if the thing only works with 3gb of ram, then that's it. It can't be
made to work with more than 3gbs of ram. You or your releative can't make it
work any other way and it's over for now, until such time MS comes out with
a fix, if ever.

It's not your computer. You're not the one having the problem is the bottom
line.

It would certainly be nice if you would stop complaining about the free
support the people in this newsgroup are trying to provide to you. Many of
them have been known to solve problems such as yours for the last couple of
years.
Apparently you didn't even bother to check the BIOS settings in the link JW
provided.
Also it would be a big help if you responded to the request to state what
memory Dims you have installed.
Of course if you think you are above providing additional or duplicate
information to those trying to solve your problem then I suggest that solve
your problem on your own.
The volunteers on this newsgroup don't need your sarcastic comments and
will probably stop trying to help.

Press F8 during the boot process to bring up the Advanced Boot Options. Pick
the option that says "Disable automatic restart on system failure". It will
stop on the BSOD. Let us know the exact error message and the parameters.

Did you try the option to disable automatic restart?
