Error code: 0x8007000D

I am trying to install Windows Vista Home Premium Edition. When I click the
setup.exe, and then click on "Install Now", I immediatly get the pop up
window that says:

"Windows was unable to create a required installation folder."

Error code: 0x8007000D

I am on the administrator account.

Any help would be appreciated.

i was trying to upgrade to windows vista ultimate from windows vista ultimate itself on one of my customer's computer.Well when we clicked on install now we got an error message "0x8007000d setup was unable to create installation folder "I googled this error message but no resolution when i checked his computer all the partitions were shared on local home netwrok.I disconnected the sharing of windows partition from the network & disconnected all the external devices connected to computer like external flash drive\printer,restarted the computer & after tha i was able to initiate & complete the upgrade of windows vista.

Try these steps to install Windows Vista on your computer

First basic step is to check the hard drive space for the installation. For Windows Vista, we need 20GB of free space.

1. If you've downloaded Windows Vista from the website, please check the size of the windows folder. It should be approx ~ 2.5GB
2. If you've any anti-virus software, go ahead and disable / uninstall the anti-virus software.
3. Put the computer into a selective startup. Below are the steps.

a. Click on start --> In the start search or Run box, please type msconfig and hit enter.
b. Check on Selective Startup --> Uncheck the Load Startup Items --> Go to the services tab --> Check on Hide all Microsoft Services --> Click on Disable all.
c. Click on Ok and then apply. If you're prompted to restart the computer, please go ahead and restart the computer.

4. If you've any external devices like printer or scanner, unplug them.
5. Go ahead and try to install Windows Vista.

If it still doesn't work, please restart the installation booting from the Windows Vista DVD.

This error is linked to STIERR_Invalid_HW_Type
which is a related to windows unable to communicate with a connected
scanner, camera, or other device.

When you disconnected all external devices (or the shared partition), you
probably cleared the error and was able to proceed.

What it may have needed was the driver installed earlier in the installation
process if you want to install windows with this device connected. Being an
upgrade, and not a clean install, I would think the driver already present
which kind of implies the shared partition was the problem.

But, I don't really know and found this interesting.

I have been getting the same error code. I was able to initially
install with no problm, but I had to repartition my drives and run the
x64 XP as well as vista x64 for compatability. I repartitioned them
with XP and installed. After installation nothing worked, I was able to
run windows XP but the CD drive, my hard drives, and internet were not
functional.

I unplugged my 1 terra drive and worked only with my 80 gig SATA,
western digital. I then reset the CMOS and BIOS, and unplugged
EVERYTHING but my keyboard, hard drive, monitor and video card, which
was the initial set-up when everything worked the first time.

Next step will be to completely erase the hard drive using an external
tool, cleaning the cd using a cloth, and switching to a PCI keyboard
instead of the USB. Even though I used the USB keyboard for the initial
install.

Re: Error code: 0x8007000D

I have a big problem.. My pc cannot start up.. I've done the troubleshooting for the error code 0x8007000D as suggested in your thread:

"Put the computer into a selective startup.

If you're prompted to restart the computer, please go ahead and restart the computer."

My computer failed to do the format and now its' stating

"Windows failed to start. a recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem.

1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer
2. choose your language
3. Click repair your computer"

I tried it but it says

'' Start up repair cannot repair this computer automatically."

What can I do??? Please help me.. Waiting for your reply
