"Not a valid Win32 application"

Hello. Just downloaded Vista RC1 64-bit version and I can't get it to
install. When I run the DVD is says "Setup cannot run on this version of the
Operating System. To install Windows please try booting from the install
media." Then when I click setup, it says "Not a valid Win32 application."

I am running XP Home SP2. How do I get it to install?

Have you tried booting to the Vista DVD?

This can be done by changing your BIOS to boot from CD/DVD. Once your system
starts it will load the Windows Vista install setup from the DVD and you
should be good to go!

You must boot off of the DVD.

You cannot run the 64-bit installer from 32 bit windows to the best of my
knowledge.

Boot from the DVD and you should be good to go.

I also don't think you can upgrade a 32 bit Windows to a 64 bit Windows.

Both are correct

Re: "Not a valid Win32 application"

well unless... you have a 64bit processor... and ur just runnin windows xp for the hell of it.. then u decide to upgrade to vista 64bit ... ...OR you're running both OS's on different partions... its all very possible... except for the whole booting a 64bit OS in a 32bit OS... that one is not possible, but boot from the disc and it should be alright.

Re: "Not a valid Win32 application"

I am also getting "Not a Valid Win32 Application Error" as well with
Vista Business SP1 on my office applications such as Word 07 and Outlook
07. A reboot/logoff of course fixes the issue. I often stay logged in
and lock the machine. As others point out this appears to amplify the
occurrences. Also around about the time it starts to happen Word 07
will cease to do in-line spell checks and will begin to act somewhat
flaky. This may or may not be related.
