WinHlp32.exe for running non- Microsoft application

I am having a non- Microsoft application which is having a help file, i am not able to run it because Microsoft has excluded WinHlp32.exe file from Vista. I have tried downloading WGA - Windows Genuine Advantage but i am not able to get winHlp32.exe. I want to know if there is anything i can do for getting winHlp32.exe run on my computer?

I have downloaded Windows6.0-KB917607-x86.msu from the site you have linked above but while installing it i am getting an error message saying that "This update does not apply to your system". Is there anything else that i can try out further? Are you aware of some other site from where i can download it?

    hello

this message concerns the old version of the windows "help" environment.
older software help files may not work on newer windows versions.
A fix is suggested by microsoft, but getting to it can be cumbersome.
I will help you cut through the chaff.

i personally have the winhlp.exe files that might work.
you can get them from me personally since they are so hard to find via MS, and since their site is messed up for this issue.
i will email them to you as attachments.

i was not able to find winhlp32.exe due to a hang up with "validation" on MS website. when i finally got it, it would not work on my toshiba laptop.

i was able to get ahold of different version of the winhlp utility, and i share it here. i am doing this because MS has stopped trying to support the vista system and have moved on to bigger and better things. that's business.

the names of the two files are:

this is the usual file you get
    Windows6.0-KB917607-x64

this is the file that worked with my vista service pack 2
    Windows6.0-KB917607-x86

since i am not sure how this blog works, i give you my email address,
