reformatting/vista reinstall attempt stops at "Completing Installation"

http://www.vistax64.com/vista-instal...sta-error.html

computer: dell e1701
windows version: 32-bit vista

I'm essentially having the same problem as this person, aside from the fact that my computer gets to the last phase "completing installation" and then after roughly 5 minutes of the triple dot succession the screen flashes black (the mouse is always visible at this time) 2 or 3 times and then it's fine for the rest of the time ... other than the fact that the installation never completes. The dots don't ever stop rotating in their "0, 1, 2, 3" fashion but i have yet to see the green progress bar at the bottom move a single pixel, nor the cd-rom drive's green light flash (i may have missed it).

I've only let it sit for 3 hours so far ... so i may just have to let it sit. Apparently some people in another thread found out that it's a driver interference issue that brings their progress speed to a crawl/standstill.

I'll have to ask some techy friends about it, but for now i'm just going to give it another go and let it sit in hopes that it'll work itself out...

>_>

<_<

any halp that you can give would be greatly appreciated ...

Re: reformatting/vista reinstall attempt stops at "Completing Installation"

Your problem seems to be very typical to me. It might be possible that the 32-bit Windows vista which you are trying to install is corrupt and that is why you are not able to load the vista in your laptop. The problem might be with the Vista CD or the content in it i.e. the Vista setup file. But you have said that you are able to see mouse after your computer boots up and then it hangs, then there is a possibility that your hard drive might be having some kind of problem. I would recommend you to submit your Dell laptop to Dell's Service Center and get it repaired, rather then experimenting yourself. You might land up creating more troubles for yourself.
