| Cannot reinstall vista after partition format Hi Guys, Looking for a little help if I may. I'm looking to upgrade from 32bit ultimate to 64bit ultimate. I want to keep my 32bit as is and install the 64bit onto a seperate partition. I created a partition using Acronis Disk Director software of 35 gigs. I then set my bios to boot cd/dvd first and installed Vista64 Ultimate. I got drivers downloaded and MOST everything was cool. I did notice that when I installed my favorite uninstalling software that only a fraction of the progs that usually show up in the display window were there. Even my antivirus (ESET) was missing from the lists. After much research and talking to a few guys who have Vista64, no one could give me a straight answer as to why this is doing this. I figured it must be unique to something I did or how something loaded, so I formatted the install drive using the onboard format tool from vista. My intention was to reinstall Vista64 once I figured out what the problem was. Now I can't reinstall Vista64. Every time I get to the part where I have to pick my partition to install on, It tells me there is no suitable volume available for install. I've been looking for an answer to this problem for days now and have not come up w/ any solid answers from just browsing through. I don't understand why a fresh partion that held Vista64 previously won't take it now. Any help someone could offer to shed some light on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance, Josh -- joshua1023 |

Maybe you just deleted the partition and did not recreate one? At any rate, I'd start over |

| Re: Cannot reinstall vista after partition format Thanks, but I got it now. I don't know why, but when I loaded the install disk for x64 while I had x32 running, it installed x64 flawlessly w/ no problems at all. Kind of an odd quirk, and I still don't know why it wouldn't install when booting from the disk. I'd still love to know if there is an obvious answer to this for future reference. -- joshua1023 |
