| Vista Home Premium 64-bit (with SP1) clean installation hangs
Hi, I have a problem with hanging clean installation. That happens when installer is completing installation. My configuration: Asus A8V Deluxe AMD Athlon 64 3700+ 4*1 Gb RAM Asus AH2600PRO Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 1TB SATA I ran the vista upgrade advisor and it said: System details: no action required (video card will even support Windows Aero) Device details: ASUS AH2600 Series (video card): This device will not work in Windows Vista ATI Function Driver for High Definition Audio -ATI AA01: There is no compatibility data available for this device. WinXP Promise SATA378 (tm) IDE Controller: There is no compatibility data available for this device. No issues were detected for my mouse, keyboard and ethernet card. --- Well my video card is supporting Windows Aero but won't work in Vista :) Anyway from video card's manufacturer web page you can download Vista 64 bit drivers and in the product package there is that Vista logo. So I think that can't be the problem. About that WinXP Promise SATA378 (tm) IDE Controller. If that would be the problem, I assume that I wouldn't be able to use that SATA hard disk for Windows installation. Now I can see the drive and Windows is installed to it. I have searched information from internet and read that people have been able to run Vista with similar mother board and graphics card and so on. Can someone help me with this one, please? Best Reagrds, Jack P.S. - Is Vista installer able to use internet connection to search for drivers for different hardware? - Is Vista installer writing some log-file during the installation, so I could try to look that and see what is causing the problem? that would be the problem, I assume that I wouldn't be able to use that SATA hard disk for Windows installation. Now I can see the drive and Windows is installed to it. |

Try removing 2GB of the RAM. There is a known problem with installing the RTM version of Vista with 4GB installed. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929777 but there isn't always an error message. Update Vista after installation and then replace the 2GB you removed. Hi, 1) Asus recommends manual memory timing be used with that board when all 4 slots are in use. Also, there is an issue with the most recent BIOS release that causes an error about USB power when all the slots are in use. This board is not really a good candidate for 4GB of ram. 2) In addition, there is a timing issue when all 4 slots are in use during a Vista x64 installation, remove the second dual channel pair until after installation completes. The capacity is not the factor, it's whether or not all 4 slots are in use. 3) I don't understand what you mean by: "Well my video card is supporting Windows Aero but won't work in Vista :)" Aero is only available in Vista, so it's either working or it's not. 4) On the Promise 378 controller driver. The XP ones Asus has on their web site WILL work for installation, but you must manually force them into use. Automatic detection and installation will not work. -- Best of Luck, Rick Rogers, aka "Nutcase" - Microsoft MVP http://mvp.support.microsoft.com/ Windows help - www.rickrogers.org My thoughts http://rick-mvp.blogspot.com "Jack" <Jack@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:765E31D7-B21B-4DF9-8C5A-650F0392FF89@microsoft.com... > Hi, > > I have a problem with hanging clean installation.
