the software is not a Microsoft product. You got the writers of the software correct the first time. Did MS make core changes that caused their software to not work on Vista, that's possible. I'll ping one of the Lexmark testers who work here in Redmond and see if he has additional information on this software. Does the document print without the use of the Lexmark Job Status Monitor software? |

| Re: Lexmark X5650 Printer Problem
If this was an upgrade from XP the issue might be with the files that were migrated. Did you already install the drivers from 11/2008? If not delete the printer, delete the drivers, run any uninstall software from Lexmark and install the printer once again. Hopefully Lexmark will respond tomorrow. I found out from my Lexmark contact this is a known issue when running the Windows 7 OS. Are you running Win7 or Vista. If you are running Vista, someone who works for Lexmark is interested in contacting you. I just heard again from Lexmark, This issue does indeed occur in Vista. My computer came with Vista installed on it. My computer is 32 bit |

Okay I'll update the Lexmark gang. They had one other question. They said they have only seen the issue on Windows 7 and Vista SP2. Did you install one of the Release Candidate SP2 builds? Lexmark said they have to run the application in compatibility mode. They did not explain further. |

No I have SP1 installed I have seen this a few times with Lexmark Printers and the solution I found was the job status window was either "blocked" by the firewall or quaran. by the Antivirus. Just to be safe you could open your firewall and add the executable c:\windows\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\lxdupsw x.exe and give full access. I just had this problem. I have a HP laptop with vista and I just ran it in compatibility mode with the printer and it worked.... |

Damn, Alan! That was some good work - even if you didn't nail it for r70454ss, you sure did for me. My Lexmark x6570 was working great - then I installed Vista SP2 RC and all went to pot....I kinda figured that was the problem, but wanted to be sure. Two questions that perhaps you could ask your friends at Lexmark: First, what is the compatibility workaround? Two, I would hope they'll be sorting this out in short order since SP2 is right around the corner...... Thanks for the great work, even if r70454ss is a little less than verbose in his/her comments! I'm just a conduit, but I will pass this along to Lexmark. |

| Re: Lexmark X5650 Printer Problem
For the record, Vista x64, Service Pack 2 doesn't work with the current Lexmark x6570 printing software. Just for grins, I tried the new Windows 7 RC software and it too doesn't work - HOWEVER, the OS recognizes this, then applied "Compatability" settings to the printing software so that the next time it runs, it does indeed work. That must have been what Lexmark's people were referring to. I don't see any such automated functionality built into Vista x64 SP2, however. If there is a manual workaround, I have yet to be able to find it. FWIW - I've tried this in both Windows 7 RC x64 and x86 (32-bit) and it works.... With Vista SP2 right around the corner, I would hope that Lexmark gets on the ball and straightens this out with a driver update. Either that, or comes up with a well documented work around - not something that users have to hunt around forums to figure out..... |

Have you tried printing to the Lexmark FAX printer from Win 7 RC? On my system, the Lexmark FAX app shows up minimized and won't go any further. The print monitor does work for normal printing, though. I'm running the RC for SP2. I'll d/l the RTM version and install that - see if that works for Vista.... I'm interested if Lexmark is giving me the right information. Please let me know if RTM does in fact resolve the issue. |

Lexmark stated that the changes in SP2 RC that block their application were pulled from SP2 RTM and they are working to fix the code path in the status monitor for future releases. Lexmark also stated that when the kernel security fix is released from MS which will block this monitor, the functions to force the monitor to compatibility mode will be functional. Are you running the RTM version of SP2? No, I haven't tried it utilizing the fax, however, I will give it a shot tonight on both the 32bit and 64bit versions, to see if it works....I'll post back here. Are you using the beta for Win7 or the RC, currently? Just curious.... I'm using the RC from TechNet |

| Re: Lexmark X5650 Printer Problem
Alan - Sorry it took so long to reply. In a nutshell, when you install the RC for SP2, there is no way to "back it out" so that I could install the RTM over it (at least not that I could figure)...so....I had to wipe the existing install of Vista and replace it with the RTM. Fortunately, as far as the printer is concerned, it was worth it, because the RTM does indeed work with the Lexmark software. No problems or even having to run under 'compatibility' mode..... I have not tried the FAX aspect yet, however. I'll take a look at that later - but for now, I am indeed able to print from both Vista x64 SP2 RTM and from Win7 RC (under compatibility mode). So far, so good. Thanks so much for your input. If I run into any more issues, I'll psot here. Ron |

First of all I'd consult the printer manual! There may be a reset button. Second, turn the printer off then turn it on again. Any change? What was the expiry date on the carton the ink cartridge came in? You may have a bad cartridge..... it's not common but it does happen. |

| RE: Lexmark X5650 Printer Problem
Hi All! I see this thread is a bit old but here goes anyway just in case anyone is still checking it now and then..... Lexmark X5650 Dell Dimension E521 (which probably makes no difference) Windows Vista Home Premium Version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 Build 6002 I am having the same basic issue as everyone else as for the spoolsv.exe crashing. I have tried everything i could find regarding this issue.... Was on the phone with Lexmark Support and told them what i had tried so they did a remote hookup to my system and had the same outcome as when i tried the fixes. I know this problem has been around for quite awhile because some of the posts i have read were pretty old. Below is what the error report shows: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: spoolsv.exe Application Version: 6.0.6002.18005 Application Timestamp: 49e02592 Fault Module Name: StackHash_7890 Fault Module Version: 6.0.6002.18005 Fault Module Timestamp: 49e03821 Exception Code: c0000374 Exception Offset: 000afaf8 OS Version: 6.0.6002.2.2.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: 7890 Additional Information 2: 18ea7c0956de636d7a0aae68babf471d Additional Information 3: 3ecb Additional Information 4: 523d7debc6dec670803a9f13f5befb24 I have uninstalled everything, manually cleaned the registry and started from scratch, tried running stuff in compatability mode and every other possible fix that i could find. Now beings that i can't afford a high fangled fancy printer and to me the $80.00 that i paid for this one YESTERDAY is alot of money right now.... i gotta make this one work SO if anyone found a cure for the spoolsv.exe issue PLEASE post the final cure. Push and pull situation huh? Who do ya blame? Vista for being Vista? Lexmark for not writing compatible software for their printer OR ME for trusting the fact that a NEW printer should just plug in and work? Sorry for venting but i know y'all have had this frustrated feeling! Any help appreciated!!! Dave Post Originated from http://www.VistaForums.com Vista Support Forums |
