WMP 11 Vista Home Premium O/S - won't stream older .asx & .asf formats

Hello,

I have found a couple of references to this particular problem, but no resolution. When I try to stream "older" content from a website in .asx or .asf format, I get the following error;

An audio codec is needed to play this file. To determine if this codec is available to download from the Web, click Web Help.

When I click on the Web Help button I get taken to a Microsoft page that says;

You've encountered error message C00D10D1 while using Windows Media Player. The following information might help you troubleshoot the issue.

Codec is missing

Windows Media Player cannot play the file (or cannot play either the audio or video portion of the file) because the Voxware RT29 MetaSound (75) codec is not installed on your computer.

The missing codec might be available to download from the Internet. To search for the Voxware RT29 MetaSound (75) codec, see WMPlugins.com.

When I click on the WMPlugins.com link, I am told that the website is no longer running and to try one of the sites it lists below for help.

Well after some research, I found out that this VOXWARE RT26 METASOUND (75) codec is the culprit as it is no longer supported by WMP and the company no longer exists. Apparently it causes a memory issue within WMP 11 and Vista and will cause WMP and Media Center to crash and NOT TO INSTALL THE CODEC. However, I am not given any alternatives to stream these videos.

Apparently newer .asx/f format are not a problem, but only the older ones that were created when VOXWARE was the goto compression guru.

I can't offer any URLs because the ones I am referring to require membership to access. But they are to videos made in the early 2000's.

Any ideas? Please?
