Blue Screen unexpected shut down. Help! I'm clueless!

Hi, I've had my HP laptop now for about 6 months, having had no probs so far until two days ago when using itunes - it shut down with what I think is called a blue screen? I have uninstalled quick time, re-installed it and the latest version of itunes as instructed by the 'help' advice. After this I managed to successfully use itunes for about an hour or so, I was burning some discs off it and the same error/shut down process occurred. It has happened now about 6 times and the laptop does not always happily start up again. I've copied the information windows gave me re- the error (I hope it's of some use):

    Problem signature:
    Problem event name: Blue screen
    OS Version: 6.0.6000.2.0.0.768.3
    Local ID: 2057

    Additional info about the prob:
    BC code: 50
    BCP 1: 9DDC7BBD
    BCP 2: 0000000
    BCP 3: 924CE1C2
    BCP 4: 0000000
    OS Version: 6_0_6000
    Service pack 0_0
    Product 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
    C:\Windows\MiniDump\Mini070808-01.dmp
    C:\Users\Kathy\Appdata\local\temp\WER30685-0.sysdata.xml
    C:\Users\Kathy\Appdata\local\temp\WERA063.tmp.version.text

Any help offered is most appreciated!

Blue screens are 99% hardware related. I would say your CDR.

First, I would go the manufacturer's website and get the lates Vista
drivers. I would also check to make sure I have all the Vista updates and
    the Itunes updates.

If still faulty, try uninstalling and reinstalling the hardware.

If still faulty, try another CD burning software and see if you still have
    problems.

Why can't you remove it in safe mode? What is the message when you try? If
it is Access Denied or similar you need to remove it by running a command
    window elevated as follows:

Type CMD in Start/Search but do not hit Enter. Right click on the cmd icon
at the top of the menu and choose Run As Administrator. Type APPWIZ.CPL and
hit Enter. Locate the program, highlight it, and click Uninstall at the top
    of the window.

Blue Screen unexpected shut down. Help! I'm clueless!

I normally hibernated by HP laptop with vista running but the other day like usual when i turned it on after every few minutes my laptop experience blue screen and restarts. I thot it might be due to software issue so when i tried for default recovery settings by running recovery windows option from Recovery manager of from directly running recovery after turning on my pc my pc goes to blue screen and i cant even run the recovery :( But when i go to safe mode no matter i open how many number of programs or whateva blue screen message never appears !!

when i ran the memory diagnostic test ... it was giving hardware problem of memory !!!!!!!! but i still doubt coz if the problem is with hardware then why isnt it appearing in safe mode ???

I am very worried coz i am very dependent on my laptop for studies and dont know how to resolve the issue and why the issue actually appears in normal mode and not in safe mode and i dont remember any software thats causing it !!

I will be extremely honored and grateful if you guys really help me in this !

Re: Blue Screen unexpected shut down. Help! I'm clueless!

Sounds like a hardware problem to me!

Anyway, such things as knowing the model of the laptop, installed memory
beyond that came with the laptop,
external devices (make model) connected to the laptop all help to isolate
    the problems.

The fact that the laptop works in safe mode is useful. However, safe mode
does not "stress" the computer hardware nearly as much as the normal mode.
This can be an indication that hardware failure is in fact the culprit.

Hibernate is another one. Failure on resume can be caused by a change in
configuration which can work back to memory failure. We generally defeat
hibernate as a troubleshooting tool. Hibernate can also fail due to hard
drive problems that don't show up otherwise.

It is also possible that there is a heat related problem. Some HP laptop
models using specific Nvidia chips have been involved in such a problem.
Internal cooling fan failure can be another cause. (And, the list goes on!)

If you are critically dependent upon a computer for your lively hood or
studies, a backup computer is a necessity.
It goes without saying that critical data should be backed up in such a way
as to allow you to have a "workaround" method available. The usual
difficulty is that critical data is only on the failing computer, and the
failure may interfere with efforts to make the data available for use on
    another working system.

Because there are fewer demands, less chance for error. The memory tests are
run outside of the OS, if it's a hardware error then it's a hardware error,
it's not quantified by whether or not an OS is loaded. Do not trust any
results you get on this system until you replace the memory stick(s).

I have the solution for these *unexpected* *shut* downs. At least for
the ones who leave them on for more than 20 minutes without doing
anything with it. You need to click *start menu*, then *control panel*,
after that you click on *system and* *maintenance*, and then *power
options*. After that you click on *change power plan settings* of your
current power plan. At put the computer asleep you say never. Now here
comes the important part.. you click on *change advanced power
settings*, and you click on *hard disk*, and on* turn off hard disk
after*, you see that it says only 20 minutes, so you need set it for a
much longer time, this will do the trick and will help *unexpected*
    *shut* downs.

Hello - I do not see the history on this thread - & since I've had
'unexpected shut downs' for months, I'd like to know more:
Details of your Vista OS -Ultimate?- 64bit? SP?
    Your PC - CPU? Memory?
What kind of shutdowns - freezes? (desktop & mouse cursor still visible or
blank screen?) sudden reboots? during booting? what were you doing at time
    of the event?
Why did you 'leave them on for more than 20 minutes? How can you access
'start menu' on a frozen system or on a 'shutdown?'
How did you restart following a shutdown? Safe Mode required?
Any response to your post suggest your PC had hardware issues?
I replaced a failing flat screen monitor, my CMOS battery (I was losing
    hours & days) & I have since removed a dysfunctional floopy/card reader.
I keep a log of my shutdowns - & they are still happening at random.

How about you? Since executing your 'solution' - have you had any more
    'unexpected' issues?

    Thanks - Blithe

Yeah there are a lot more issues than only this one. I actually found
out this was not the REAL solution after all....... I will remove my
    posts of the solution.

Impossible. They are on Usenet servers all over the world, and are
