| Computer randomly restarts during Games I have just bought a new computer with the following specs 3.00 Ghz Intel core 2 Duo ATI Radeon HD3870X2 4gb DDR3 Ram 500gb Hard driver Asus P5E3 Mobo 650W Power Supply Windows Vista 64 bit The while playing games such as Call of Duty 4 and World in Conflict I can play for about 5 mins to 30 mins then my computer would randomly shut off and restart. The weird thing is that it plays fine in other games like Crysis on high graphisc and I can play for hours and have no problems. The CPU tempearature is about 50-60C while playing and the GPU is about 70-80 Does anyone know what the problem may be? Thanks -- dominati0n |

Since it doesn't appear to be heat it must be power. Replace the power supply with a quality unit. But power supplies like you buy grapefruit: look for the heaviest one on the shelf. |

It sounds like heating in one of the components. The gpu temp sounds higher than it needs to be. I take it that you are not overclocking? I would take a good look at the DDR3. Do you have heat sinks installed on them? Are you using a thermally advantaged case? What is the make and model of the computer? What is the cpu model? E6xxx or E9xxx? The gpu temp sounds higher 60-80 is high but the card should be able to run at 90 before crapping out. You have a good point about the ram though, ram heatsinks would be a cheap fix to try. |

| Re: Computer randomly restarts during Games What should your GPU tempearature be when playing intense Graphic games? I have an E8400 CPU and heatsinks came with the ram when i bought it. Although is kinda warm when I touch it. -- dominati0n |

Nvidia GPU's are spec'd to run at something like 120c |

| Re: Computer randomly restarts during Games I don't think it is a hardware issue because it doesnt crash in other games ike Crysis which is a lot more graphic intense. It is in only a few games -- dominati0n |

Please make sure you have the latest version of DirectX installed on your machine,as well as the latest version of video drivers for your graphics card. | Re: Computer randomly restarts during Games I have been reading a lot of forums and it may be the power. This person was talking on another forum and he reckons that not enough amps may cause the power to duck out "It may be rated as a 630 watt PSU, but a lot of that power is unusable. 36 amps is pretty light for a 630 watt PSU. Based on the 12 volt rating, it's more like a 450 watt PSU. My 650 watt Antec can provide 52 amps. What is probably happening is that under heavy CPU and graphics load, the 12 volt output drops out for a moment. The PSU detects this and drops a control line called "PSGood" (pin 8 - gray wire) to 0 volts. This automatically forces a hardware CPU reset. Your PC probably runs fine during normal applications or 'net surfing." This is the Power Specifications for my PSU Auriga MPT-6512 ATX 12V v2.2 Safety Standard : UL, CUL, TUV, CB Certification : Intel/AMD approved 1 x 20+4 pin connector 2 x 6 pin connector 8 x Molex connector 4 x SATA connector 2 x FDD connector Power Specifications: 115V, 230V switchable power supply +3.3V @ 34A +5V @ 42A +12V1 @ 19A +12V2 @ 20A -12V @ 0.8A +5 VSB @ 2.5A Do these specs sound like they could be the issue? -- dominati0n |

People often seem to forget that a computer is an entire system not just a collection of components. |
