Vista 32bit Enterprise BSOD, need help please

Hi everyone,

Specs: I am running Windows Vista 32 bit Enterprise Edition, with all
critical/required Updates from Windows Update.

I recently purchased a Vista laptop, and I had some troubles with it
recently (read:as soon as I got it). Problem is I purchased it new off
of eBay, so I can't send it back for a new one .

I was getting a system file corrupt or missing error, and I fixed that
by copying the corrupt file from the recovery disk to the hard drive
through the command prompt.

Well, after that problem disappeared, this new one appeared with which
I am at a loss.

What happens is whenever I boot up the laptop, It will advance just
past the Vista loading screen, and as the sign in screen is about to
appear, I get a BSoD:

STOP: c0000145 {Application Error}
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000005)

And that's it. The BSoD is extremely fustrating because it does not
tell me WHICH application is causing the error.

Now onto the interesting part--When I get this error, I have no choice
but to power off again. The next time I try and boot up again, the
everything loads up fine. If I shut down and try and boot up again...
the same error as before appears. Again, if I reboot from this point,
everything boots up fine, and the cycle repeats.

So basically, it seems that I can load Vista EVERY OTHER time... which
to me is incredibly bizzare, because if I am able to turn Vista on once,
shouldn't Vista try and boot up the same way every time?

Edit: Here's a list of all the software I installed after receiving the
laptop( which may or may not have affected this error):
Firefox 3.0,
Steam, OrangeBox,
VideoLAN (VLC player),
IrfanView,
Adobe Flash Player for Firefox and IE.
Also, I had installed python 2.5 ('Python Programming Language --
Official Website' (http://www.python.org)) and the pygame library, but I
removed them, thinking they were the problem (not the case it seems)

Does anyone have any suggestions about this problem?

I've heard that it could be a memory problem, so I ran windows memory
test, and I didn't find any errors. I'm running MemTest86 right now just
to make sure.

Could it also be that my memory isn't seated properly? Thanks.

Have you tried System Restore, backing up to a happier time? Do you have
any suspicious devices plugged in, such as a USB device? The symptoms point
to a device initialization routine. Unless you can figure something out, a
clean install seems like a good bet.

Have you tried tapping F8 at Startup, and going to the list of Safe Mode, etc?
There is a provision there, so that you can find out what the Blue Screen
error message is.
I forget the exact words, but it is to do with the fact that you don't auto
restart after that error message.

Ok, strange occurence, but I fixed it by installing vista sp1

And I did try tapping F8 at startup, but nothing happened. It's because
for some strange reason my laptop uses F10 instead of F8.
Anyways, thanks everyone for the help!

I have had exactly the same happen to my system over the last week or so
and have not been able to get any advice to get me back into the system.

Maybe some of the other information provided in the thread may be of
use to you? I don't think I'll be seeing an answer anytime soon! Will
just have to wait until someone actually finds a way around this! Good
luck with it all though and if you manage to find any useful solutions
let me know pls :))
