Bluetooth software and drivers installed - but I don't have Bluetooth

    Hello all:

I have a new Sony VAIO laptop, Vista Home Premium. WIDCOMM Bluetooth
Software is installed, and BthServ (Bluetooth Support Service) is always
    running.

Also, System Information | System Drivers shows many Bluetooth drivers
    installed:

    bthmodem (Bluetooth Serial Communications Driver)
bthpan (Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network))
    bthport (Bluetooth Port Driver)
    bthusb (Bluetooth Radio USB Driver)
    btwaudio (Bluetooth Audio Device Service)
    btwavdt (Bluetooth AVDT)
    btwl2cap (Bluetooth L2CAP Service), and
    btwrchid (apparently another Bluetooth driver).

This laptop does not come with Bluetooth. If the software and drivers are
not part of standard Vista, then perhaps they are part of Sony's standard
VAIO installation whether the laptop has Bluetooth or not.

I thought I would uninstall the software and set the service not to
automatically run. Is there any reason not to uninstall the WIDCOMM
Bluetooth Software, and set BthServ (Bluetooth Support Service) not to run?
I don't see the point of having things run if there are of no use. Also,
should I uninstall/delete the various Bluetooth drivers? (How does one
    remove drivers?)

I don't think VAIO laptops support widcomm -- at least mine doesn't.

Presumably some of them must, or why would Sony install that software?

Anyway, I want to know if I can safely uninstall the software, and how to
    remove the drivers.

RE: Bluetooth software and drivers installed - but I don't have Blueto

If your laptop definitely does not have bluetooth installed
    removing/disabling services/drivers no problem.
Checking the Sony website I did locate one without it. I accept that yours
    maybe different.
Even if installed and you are confident that you will not use it, you can
disable any services and disable the drivers in Device Manager, relating to
    bluetooth.
Considering the amount of disks space that the drivers occupy why not just
disable. If all bluetooth services/drivers disabled you should not be
    hindered in any way.

Re: Bluetooth software and drivers installed - but I don't have Blueto

I'm not sure what you're saying. Here is my VAIO model.
    http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/ser...ductId=1005136
Click Specifications, and there is no Bluetooth equipment listed.
I asked a Sony tech if there were a way to check if I have Bluetooth. He
said to look in the Wireless Switch Setting Utility, which allows selection
of WiFi frequency. There is no Bluetoon option present there, which he said
means that the computer does not have Bluetooth hardware.

I looked in Device Manager as you suggested, but I do not see any Bluetooth
entries. Could that be because there is no Bluetooth hardware onboard, so
even though the drivers are visible in System Information | System Drivers
they maybe have not bee fully "installed" or recognized?

If I uninstall WIDCOMM Bluetooth Software, might that automatically stop
BthServ (Bluetooth Support Service) from automatically loading and running?
Once that's done, how would I or should I remove or disable all those
    Bluetooth drivers?

Re: Bluetooth software and drivers installed - but I don't have Bl

As you realise this is worldwide forum I'm from down under (Aust). Sony
(Aust) is as I mentioned about bluetooth. I meant to say all Sony Vioa here
appear to have bluetooth devices installed.
Removing the software should not pose any problems it may even get rid of
the drivers. The drivers maybe part of the software package.
The drivers are located at: Windows/System32/Drivers. - it maybe hard to
locate the specific drivers as you will se when you go there, you will need
to know the correct file names for bluetooth. I cannot say what they are
    because different countries different suppliers.

Unfortunately you may have to contact Sony and request file names, etc.

More information is needed. Please be as specific as possible. Also, please
note that there is no way you will be able to make use of the software
application or any other program's blue-tooth features if your hardware
    itself does not support it.
