    Cannot hibernate

I am struggling with the “Hibernate” on my Vista Ultimate machine. When
placed into Hibernate it immediately turns the monitor off and seems to go
into some sort of deep sleep state but does not seem to write to the
hibernate file first. It will not then awaken either by the power on-off
switch, keyboard or anything I do. I have to force a power down restart then
through through the F8 screen etc.

I am also dual booting with XP. This hibernates and restores fine so
    seemingly the hardware is fine.

I have upgraded my Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 Intel 2 Core Duo 2.4Ghz, 2 gig RAM
MotherBoard with their latest bios, running into a Gigabyte 7900 GS Video
(also updated with their latest drivers).

When I run the powercfg –a I get:
    C:\Windows\system32>powercfg -a
The following sleep states are available on this system: Standby ( S1 )
    Hibernate
The following sleep states are not available on this system:
    Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
    Standby (S3)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
    Hybrid Sleep

It makes me wonder then, that when I select Hibernate it is actually going
into a S2 or S3 sleep state which is not supported???

    Anyone have any clues?
    Thanks in advance.
    Pete

    RE: Cannot hibernate

Some more info: All of my devices seem ok. i.e there are no "yellow" incons
showing device problems in system monitor/device view.

However When I look at the event log I do see associated "critical" errors.
Source Kernel-Power, Event Id 41 and description of "The last sleep
transition was unsuccessful. This error could be caused if the system stopped
responding, failed, or lost power during the sleep transition."

I hope this helps the prblem description.
