How to transfer installed Vista from one hard drive to another?

I'm getting a new hard drive and have been running vista on my current hard
drive for awhile and have my programs setup on it and don't want the hassle
of starting over. I'm wondering if there's a way that I can just move the
vista installation to my new hard drive. All help is appreciated. Thankyou.

Aconis True Image 11 and use Clone Disk. It is so fast that you can't
    believe it worked!

    Good luck, Rich

It's very nice of Acronis to give a fully functional 15-day trial of Migrate
Easy 7.0. A one day trial would have been fine!

    Jeff,
You might consider investing in Acronis True Image 11 Home. You can get a
copy at Best Buy for $39.95. One way to do this is to: Connect your new
drive, run Acronis 11 stand alone (Boot up disk). Copy all the files to
your new from your old to new HD. Reinstall your new drive as boot up drive
    and away you go.

    Jeff:

The link below talks about cloning the hard drive for just such an
event. Mentioned in this thread is a commercial program called Acronis
True Image. You can download a 15 day evaluation copy here: 'Backup
software for data backup and disaster recovery in Windows and Linux -
    Acronis' (http://www.acronis.com)

    Here's the discussion:

    I hope this helps.

i found a web site with info on doing it with something included on the
Vista DVD. It's more complicated than running the Acronis program but just
to let everyone know there is something in Vista that allows you to
    duplicate an install.

I've used Acronis for several years, now. It's a good product, which has
gotten me out of serious difficulties when my hard drives have gone south.
It's saved me tons of time in restoring everything. I know you'll be
delighted with it. I am currently using Acronis 11.

Yes. It is an excellent choice for Vista Home Premium x64. That is what my
wife uses on her HP laptop running VHP x64. Have no fear.
