There are no scroll bars just two microphone inputs and a line in, i'll try to attach a screenshot, not sure what tags work on this forum.

Found the problem with mine, from what I can guess Vista had installed a generic driver for the sound device that made it only part functional though showed in the device manager as installed. After installing the driver from the disc that came with the mobo it is functioning correctly. Not sure why I hadn't installed it properly in the first place, maybe I clicked restart before it had finished installing all drivers. I'll assume that was the cause and post again if it turns out to be something else.
