    BF2 and Punkbuster with Vista

Just loaded Vista Ultimate 32 bit and when I try to join a ranked server in
BF2 I get booted because punkbuster has inadequate operating system
privileges. Does anyone know the work around? I tried turning off the
firewall and running in compatibility mode (win xp) but it does not help.

Download the pbsetup.exe file and manually run it to update and find all
your games that need PB. After this it is fine

IF this still failed, download pbsvc.exe and run it.

Yes there is a way to get around the problem. I too have both BF2 abd
BF2142. In order to fix this problem you need to right click on the desktop
Icon of BF2 and seleck the compatabilty tab then check adminastrator
privlages. This will tell Punkbuster that BF2 does have privlages to run the
    program.

    BF2\Vista and Punkbuster

Well it also appears that Punkbuster can have issues with BF2 and Vista.

I tried BF2 with Vista, performance wasn't as good as I was used to under XP, had the problems with insufficient rights etc, eventually got it running after a couple of false starts, but anyway, as I use a dual boot system it was no biggy to just stick with BF2 and XP... until last night when i got a Permanent GUID Ban.

As i don't cheat it was a bit of a surprise (to put it mildly) I have contacted Even balance and they advised it was either i cheated (NO), Someone Else using my PC cheated (NO) or my CD Key was stolen (???).

So I have advised them that i haven't cheated and that no-one else uses my PC.

I did a bit more research and it seems quite a few people have had the same result when trying Vista (there are other apps as well that might cause it), so i have gone back again advising them of the possibilties and again asking for the ban to be lifted.

From what I've read i don't like my chances, but seems a bit extreme, I have asked for the evidence etc, so i can try and tie it down, or even prove that it wasn't me...

    I wait with baited breath....

Flagstaff is corect. I went from Vista 32 to Vista 64 and I was getting the
Punkbuster kick. If you run the game as administrator (by right clicking
the game icon), this issue will disappear.

Re: BF2 and Punkbuster with Vista

I have about the same problem. I downloaded the BF2 pack from EA's website two days ago and have yet to play online because punk buster kicks me for inadequate O/S privileges. I am running Vista SP1 32-bit. I have tried all the common suggestions such as running as admin, reinstalling both BF2 and PB, running pbsvc.exe, and I even turned off all my antivirus/anti-adware/firewalls, just for troubleshooting purposes. I can't get stupid PB to stop kicking me. I have UAC turned off and this is the only account on the PC. I have even tried turning off pretty much every unnecessary process and then running BF2.

It's driving me nuts because there's absolutely no reason why this should be happening. PB support has been completely useless and slow thus far. EA has just referred me to PB. My situation pretty much sucks. Any ideas?

You can go to evenbalance.com, they have a program that updates Punk
Buster based on your OS, and which games you have installed, that should
    fix thje problem.

    http://www.evenbalance.com/index.php?page=pbsetup.php

If you already tried it I don't know what to suggest other than to
download Steam and get the F.E.A.R. 2 Demo, DAMN! I mean
DAAAAMMMMNNNNNNN, my favorite demo of the year, so far. Monolith is back
on top as my favorite FPS dev.

I used to have this problem, cured it by keeping punkbuster up to date and
    turning off my UAC
