Could not reconnect all network drives... Bollocks!

Every time I restart the Vista Ultimate x64 machine and log in it reports
that it was unable to reconnect all the network drives. Sure enough, if I
go into Computer all 6 network shares are displayed with red crosses.
However, all the drives ARE actually connected and can be accessed normally.
If I click on one and then go back to the Computer main screen the drive
    then gets a green tick.

Why is it reporting connection problems when the drives appear to be
functioning perfectly? How do I get it to display the correct status when I
first log in? Is it trying to tell me that there are some subtle networking
    issues going on here?

Re: Could not reconnect all network drives... Bollocks!

I have the exact same problem in any version of Vista I have tried,
Ultimate, Home Premium, and Home Basic. It's not so bad save for the
fact that I have my music playlists on my NAS. There are no required
user names or passwords to connect to these folders but when any version
of vista logs on it will pop up the could not reconnect all network
drives error popup. I can go into the computer icon and double click
the drive and it goes in fine despite having the red X on it, though
that X disappears as soon as I double click it until the next time I
reboot. Now, back to the issue. if I don't double click the drive in
the computer area and open winamp instead and hit play, winamp thinks
that drive isn't connected and won't play any music until I double click
that drive. I just want to cut out these steps. Any way to get it so
these drives reconnect? BTW, I am hooked up to the network via Wireless
NIC. I am assuming that the time it takes to connect to the wireless
network is greater than the time it takes to reconnect the network
    drive. Thoughts?

I do experience the same problems, but only if the drive letter refers
to a subfolder on a share. If I map a network drive on \\SERVER\SHARE no
problems occur. Only when the drive is mapped to
    \\SERVER\SHARE\SUBFOLDER, the popup appears.

Re: Could not reconnect all network drives... Bollocks!

Having similar problems, but not quite the same symptoms or setup.

I have a few machines hard-wired to the network, a load of stuff on a nas drive, and mappings to shared folders. The mappings are to \\nasdrivename\foldername - so no sub-folder issue or wireless connection time isssues, but same results.

I was always getting the red x's, problems connecting, & so on.

What I did to resolve the access / password problems was to set up a batch file which deletes the mappings & then sets them up again during the boot. All of which work fine, no red x's, no connection problems at all, but...

Vista machines, and only vista machines still, once everything's finished booting & setting up, throw up a 'Not all network drives could be reconnected' box.

Anyone any further ideas on this problem?

I'm wondering whether its a remnant of an old mapping to a resource that no longer exists or needs different parameters, that Vista is still trying to connect to, gives up on, doesn't show in explorer, but still lets me know it at least tried.

P.S. What does 'This work for me -> 'Could Not Reconnect All Network Drives - Mars Box' ' mean?

    EDIT:

    Found this - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/KB960646

Seems to be a bit of history relating to the problem - Designed as a solution for machines running Vista SP1 & using certificate-based Secure Sockets Layer connections - Neither applies in my case. I'm wondering whether the problem we're seeing was introduced by MS fixing the SSL problem?
