"The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected"

It's new laptop and just was running installation (Home Vista Premium), then
suddenly a error message "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered
an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows,
click "OK" or restart the computer, and then restart the installation". But
no matter what I've tried, that message appears again. Has anyone encountered
the same problem? Could anyone please help? I bought it overseas, costly to
send it back. Thanks in advance.

If it is a new laptop, what Operating System did it come with?
    They come pre-installed!

If it's a new laptop, the proper response is to return it to the place of
purchase or to the manufacturer for repair or warranty work.

New laptops don't require an installation of an operating system.
Whatever the OP is doing probably has nullified any warranty.

New laptops DO require installation. Lenovo, Toshiba, HP, Acer and all others ship the OS in a compressed format and extract/install on first boot. This is mostly for language reasons because the Vista license only supports one language. Please people, do your homework and stop giving out bad/wrong info.

Re: "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected"

Hi, I have this problem as well, I have a HP media center desktop pc recently my husband switched it off at the power point because it froze he didnt know the ctr alt dele, since then when I start it comes up with a black screen with 00 00 00 tiled all over it and then it goes into windows but and does nothing, I bought recovery discs and ran them but still nothing it just keeps starting up with the windows opening page and then black screen full of zeros then the dreaded error message from above.
    Thanks if you can help

On of my friend also faced similar issues on his computer and to solve this issue he changed the DDR voltage in the bios from “auto” to “2.0v” and the system worked like a champ. He found out that the memory is listed as 2.1v on the vendor site, but actually setting it to that would cause hangs and various crashes. From digging around a little it seems more than a few people are having issues with the combination of that different motherboard and different memory.

    not a terribly coherent question===>

but the screen with all zeros on it is significant

The problem is very likely to be with the video card.

Since you guys don't know how to deal with that...
take it in to the shop...

don't take it to one of those rip-off places though
    such as Geek-Squad

First reboot your computer in Safe Mode and then uninstall any of the existing driver for your graphic card. Now restart in normal mode and see if it loads. You must now see yellow exclamation mark in the Device Manager. Visit your video card manufacturing site and download the latest one. Install it and see if that works.

Thank you for you help, I have another problem though the computer wont finish the install so I cant get into the windows even in safe mode.
If I can get it so it boots up in safe mode, I will be able to do that and I will let you know how I go. Ahh I think I will end up having to take it somewhere and I know It will cost me a forturne.......
