| Windows media center wizard crashes Greetings to all! Running Vistax64, Sp1, clean install on a new home built machine. When I launch the media center wizard, when it gets to the place where it sets out to test the speakers, it stops working and 'has to close.' I have uninstalled Nero 7, my anti-virus software, flv player as well as the other speaker utility that came with the motherboard (SoundMax BlackHawk) and run the 'scannow utility' but so far nothing has worked. Here is the report, for those of you that can understand this: *product* Media Center *Problem*APPCRASH *Date*24/04/2008 10:10 AM *Status*Report Sent *Description*Stopped working *Problem signature*Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: ehshell.exe Application Version: 6.0.6001.18000 Application Timestamp: 47919e0e Fault Module Name: atklumdispx.dll Fault Module Version: 7.14.10.303 Fault Module Timestamp: 4715a790 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0000000000008ab3 OS Version: 6.0.6001.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 3081 *Extra information about the problem*Bucket ID: 1059204 For what it is worth, the same fault module version is showing up every time I attempt to import a video file (dv) into the storyboard in windows movie maker:confused:... If anyone has any thoughts on the matter, I'm all ears! Thanks! miles51 -- miles51 |

| Re: Windows media center wizard crashes What are the file properties for that file? That looks like an ATI driver file. Does updating to their newer version help? If you have the SoundMax sound card - do you have the the "Sonic Effects" enhancement (I believe that's the name)? Watch out for that, it has a HUGE memory leak and you'll likely want to turn that off. Anyways, if you see your system become less responsive over time, that should be the culprit. (I have SoundMax audio too and ran into this and was most unhappy with them.) -- Speaking for myself only. See http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info. | Re: Windows media center wizard crashes Hi, Zachd, and thanks for your response! The ATI Catalyst Control Center seems to have up-to-date drivers (they list v. 8.4 on their website, v.8.43 came as software with the graphics card.) SoundMax is integrated into the mobo and seems to be a stripped down version, as I can find no 'sonic enhancements' feature on it. When you ask, 'what are the file properties for that file?', I am not sure what you mean. If it is reference to the files I am trying to import into the storyboard, G-Spot identifies them as dvsd files. It also says that it is 'unable to render the audio,' however, the selection of codecs used by MS is able to render the audio when tested in that utility. I am clueless... thanks! miles51 -- miles51 |

| Re: Windows media center wizard crashes Hi, again, Zachd... I figured out you are asking about the fault module file 'atklumdispx.dll.' I ran a search and found the following: 'Asustek compatible LDDM D3D driver' and a file version #. I have no idea what that is for, but will investigate updating it. As an aside, on the two occasions I have tried to update the bios (Asus P5K-E wi-fi) the system has completely locked up and I have had to run a system restore. Hopefully there is something here which can be updated without destabilizing the system. Cheers! miles51 -- miles51 |

| Re: Windows media center wizard crashes Just want to say thanks, Zachd--that clue was enough to get me on the right track. Updating the drivers through Vista does not work, however, going directly to the Asus website and downloading the latest graphics card drivers seems to have fixed it (so far!) Cheers, miles51 -- miles51 |
