For a couple of weeks, I've been unable to install or uninstall any
64-bit applications that uses the Windows Installer. I alway get the
message "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can
occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your
support personnel for assistance." Installing and uninstalling 32-bit
applications that rely on MSI does work correctly.
- I have unregistered/registered both instance of msiexec (System32 and
SysWOW64). Done this in normal as well as safe mode, rebooting after
each try.
- The service is registered and running. (Doesn't stop when it
starts.)
- As far as I can tell, registry entries in the MSIServer key are
correct.
- When logging the installer results, it reporst an error 1719 right
after the line "Connected to service for CA interface"
- Installed service pack 1 but that didn't fix the problem
- Tried every solution found in kb and forums all over the place and
nothing does the trick.
This was merely an annoyance at first but now I really need to install
and uninstall some stuff and I'm stuck. I don't want to do a fresh
install either.
