| The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed (Error 1719)
For a couple of weeks, I've been unable to install or uninstall any 64-bit applications that uses the Windows Installer. I alway get the message "The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." Installing and uninstalling 32-bit applications that rely on MSI does work correctly. - I have unregistered/registered both instance of msiexec (System32 and SysWOW64). Done this in normal as well as safe mode, rebooting after each try. - The service is registered and running. (Doesn't stop when it starts.) - As far as I can tell, registry entries in the MSIServer key are correct. - When logging the installer results, it reporst an error 1719 right after the line "Connected to service for CA interface" - Installed service pack 1 but that didn't fix the problem - Tried every solution found in kb and forums all over the place and nothing does the trick. This was merely an annoyance at first but now I really need to install and uninstall some stuff and I'm stuck. I don't want to do a fresh install either. |

Altough my MSIServer registry key was correct, there was an Enum subkey that was causing all my problems. Once I removed this key, the 64-bit installer started working again. I have the same problem. To fix the Enum subkey, you asked Mustafa to open the .Reg file, copy it and post it to this forum. But, for unknown reasons he didn't post it. Therefore, I'll post mine instead so that you could explain how to delete the subkey. The windows installer is set to manual. But this does not start and says "@%SystemRoot%\system32\msimsg.dll,-27" access denied and error 5. What should i do? I have the same problem and I cant get it fixed.. what is the Enum subkey? and how can I get rid of it Having similar problem (HP Laptop w/ Vista x64, SP1) ever since I upgraded to SP1. Attached my Reg export as instructed for other gentleman, appreciate any help. I'm unable to download the attachment (from the Gateway you posted from). Perhaps you can use a newsreader to attach files, or post in plain-text format, or mail the file to me directly. I have a similar prob and can't fix it. Below is my reg entry for MSIServer Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer] "Type"=dword:00000010 "Start"=dword:00000003 "ErrorControl"=dword:00000001 "ImagePath"=hex(2):25,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,72,00,6f,00,6f,00,\ 74,00,25,00,5c,00,73,00,79,00,73,00,74,00,65,00,6d,00,33,00,32,00,5c,00,6d,\ 00,73,00,69,00,65,00,78,00,65,00,63,00,20,00,2f,00,56,00,00,00 "DisplayName"="@%SystemRoot%\\system32\\msimsg.dll,-27" "WOW64"=dword:00000001 "ObjectName"="LocalSystem" "Description"="@%SystemRoot%\\system32\\msimsg.dll,-32" "DependOnService"=hex(7):72,00,70,00,63,00,73,00,73,00,00,00,00,00 "ServiceSidType"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer\Enum] "0"="Root\\LEGACY_MSISERVER\\0000" "Count"=dword:00000001 "NextInstance"=dword:00000001 |

| Re: Enum subkey?
Click Start, type Regedit.exe and press ENTER. Navigate to the following branch: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM \CurrentControlSet \Services \MSIServer From the File menu, choose Export, and save the branch to a .REG file. Exit the Registry Editor. Open the .REG file using Notepad. Copy the file contents and post it here. |

Thank you for your solution tips. Yet I don't know how to run a downloaded software when Windows Installer doesn't work properly. In fact, I tried to run msiserver.reg but it didn't work. Anyway, This is not my problem now. Due to a problem with my internet connection, I re-installed Windows Vista with Packard Bell's Smart Restore. Due to a minor problem, I tried then to restore my computer to a prior point in time. It didn't work. I tried to restore it to another point in time. It didn't work either. All I keep getting after each attempt is the following error message:"System Restore did not complete successfully. Your computer's system files and settings were not changed. Details: An unspecified error occurred during system restore". So can you or anyone else help me fix this problem? I also have the "Windows Installer Service could not be accessed" problem (in Vista 32 SP1). I've read and tried all the solutions suggested here and elsewhere on the Web, but nothing works so far. It seems like an MSI Server registry fix ought to be part of the answer, but when I apply any such fix and reboot, the original entries are unchanged (I've checked the permissions). Eventually I guess I'll have to do a repair install of Vista, but as I have SP1 installed I believe I'll need to create a slipstreamed setup disk in order to do the repair. If any kind person has a suggested solution that hasn't already been mentioned anywhere, it would be very much appreciated. Many thanks. how did you delete it? I saved it to desktop and opened it using notepad to delete it. But I don't how to add the new file back. Please help. lol I don't know how to do that. :( Could you sorta explain how to delete directly in it? |

| Re: The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed (Error 1719) Server 2003 64 BIT I suddenly became unable to install some applications. Whenever I would try, I would get the following: "Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. ..." The solutions I found in the MS KB were not effective for me. solution The paths I use assume that Windows is installed in the C:\WINDOWS folder. Change the path to match your installation if necessary. In Registry Editor, navigate to: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSIServer then change the DisplayName value to: C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\msiexec.exe /V Close registry editor, then register the installer by opening a command prompt and running: C:\WINDOWS\SysWOW64\msiexec.exe /regserver if this stops working you need to run the comand prompt again to register the services - this will happen after you run updates on your server. I deleted it directly inside regedit. (Altough backing up the key is always a good precaution.) If you double-click on a .reg file it will add it's content to the registry, but it won't delete any of the already present keys. It will however replace any duplicated values with the one in the file. Well... to delete a key inside regedit, make sure the right key or subkey is highlighted and press the "Del" key on your keyboard. (You can also use the Delete command from the Edit menu, or from the contextual menu if you right-click on it.) For me, that was the problematic registry key. Once I deleted that, things started to work again. Just make sure you make a backup before trying anything. |

Ok I am havingtghe same problem. I have tried everything. Tried to do the 4.5 installer reinstall, and it tells me the updates are not for my system. Did the google searches and tried it all, and still nothing works. I have also tried the Reg Edit, but not sure if I did it right, because it still does not work. Do you remove all the ENUM data, or just part of it? I tried to do the Installer cleaner, but I get the 1719 error then also, so it cant even install... Talk about Ironic!!! ya im a noob at this and i first got this error while was trying 2 install cod 4 on my comp and i thought something was wrong with the cd r something but then i keept on geting this error and error 1607 and now i cant install anything i have tryed all the microsoft support Methods for error 1607 and cant find any for 1719 and nothing worked. can some 1 plz help me ive been trying 2 fix this for a month and ive done what Ramesh said. thankz Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msiserver] "DisplayName"="Windows Installer" "Description"="Adds, modifies, and removes applications provided as a Windows Installer (*.msi) package. I have the same issue with the MS Installer service. I also have the ENUM key. However, Everytime I delete the key it comes back? Any idea's where it comes from or how to get rid of it so I can get passed this and move on with my life! I've spent way way too many hours on this issue! |
