| Physical Address Extension?
I have a VPC program by Conexant that ran OK under XP, but won't start under Vista. It says it cannot run with PAE (Physical Address Ectention) running, and that I should turn it off. What exactly is PAE, and can it be turned off? If it can be turned off, how do I do it? Thanx, Buddha |

| Re: Physical Address Extension?
Thanx for the reply. Only one problem. The procedures listed on the site to deactivate PAE involve editing the boot.ini file with Windows XP. I can't seem to find a comparable file on my Vista Home Premium system. Does Vista even have a boot.ini file? If so, where is it? Or does the file that serves this purpose have another name. To be honest, I have to grope my way through anything later than the old config.sys/autoexec.bat startup files. From what I can tell, PAE serves a purpose I don't need since I don't have enough RAM to require it, and if that's all it does, I'd just as soon turn it off and get some of my XP programs to run. Buddha, http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa906211.aspx Read the section: pae [ Default | ForceEnable | ForceDisable ] I don't understand it all either and from what I've read there many others the same way. You can try a Google search for: how to deactivate PAE in Vista Lots of hits, so maybe something out there can help you. -- All the best, SG Is your computer system ready for Vista? https://winqual.microsoft.com/hcl/ "Buddha" <TEPonta@SBCGlobal.net> wrote in message news:B36C4A4E-7A23-415F-AA17-CF4A71294ACA@microsoft.com... > Thanx for the reply.
